December 1, 2025 – Mumbai, India Tata Group’s hospitality giant, The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), is scaling up its asset-light strategy with a bang! Through its wholly-owned subsidiary Roots Corporation Limited (RCL), IHCL has snapped up 51% stakes (on a fully diluted basis) in two midscale hotel operators: ANK Hotels Private Limited (ANK) and Pride Hospitality Private Limited (Pride). The total outlay? ₹190.5 crore (₹109.3 cr for ANK + ₹81.2 cr for Pride).

This follows accession agreements signed after an initial announcement in August 2025, marking a key step in IHCL’s ambition to dominate India’s diverse hotel market.

Deal Snapshot

  • ANK Hotels Acquisition: RCL bought 7,432 equity shares (face value ₹10 each) at ₹1,47,059 per share, totaling ₹109.3 crore. ANK brings 119 hotels (67 operational) under brands like Clarks Inn and Clarks Inn Suites. FY25 turnover: ₹14.32 crore.
  • Pride Hospitality Acquisition: RCL subscribed to 1,14,490 new equity shares (face value ₹10 each) at ₹7,091 per share, for ₹81.2 crore. Pride adds 28 hotels (14 operational) under brands like Clarks Safari and Clarks Resort. FY25 turnover: ₹19 crore.
  • Strategic Fit: Both companies operate in the midscale segment, enhancing IHCL’s geographical reach across India (and Sri Lanka for ANK). No related-party ties; all cash deals at arm’s length.
  • Completion: Deals closed on December 1, 2025, after fulfilling conditions precedent. No regulatory approvals required.

Portfolio Boost

The acquisitions add over 140 hotels to IHCL’s ecosystem, primarily under ‘The Clarks Hotels & Resorts’ umbrella. This aligns with IHCL’s asset-light model, focusing on management contracts rather than ownership—perfect for penetrating Tier-2/3 cities.

IHCL’s Bigger Picture

With iconic brands like Taj and Ginger, IHCL is pushing for 300+ hotels by 2025-26. This move addresses market heterogeneity and bolsters midscale presence. Investors: Expect synergies in operations and revenue growth.
