One of Vedanta’s subsidiaries, Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), is undertaking a significant expansion of its operations. This includes:

  • Smelter capacity expansion: Increasing capacity by 435 KTPA, bringing the total capacity to 1015 KTPA.
  • Rolled products capacity expansion: Increasing capacity by 130 KTPA. This involves:
    • Increasing wire rod capacity to 268 KTPA by adding 50 KTPA.
    • Revising sow ingot capacity addition to 200 KTPA.
  • Additional capacity additions: Adding 420 KTPA of billet capacity, reaching 180 KTPA for both RP and PFA through debottlenecking.
  • Investment and Timeline: These improvements will cost ₹ 11,816 Crores and are expected to generate economic benefits starting in FY 2025-26. The funding will come from internal accruals and debt.

Whirlpool of India Limited

Whirlpool of India Limited is a leading manufacturer and marketer of home appliances in India. The company offers a wide range of products, including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, microwave ovens, and water purifiers.

Whirlpool is expanding its refrigerator manufacturing capacity at its Pune factory. Key details of this expansion include:

  • Capacity addition: Increasing capacity by 3 lakh units annually.
  • Existing capacity and utilization: The current annual capacity is 54 lakh units, with an approximate utilization of 63%.
  • Timeline: The expansion will be implemented in phases, with completion expected by July 2026.
  • Investment and Funding: The estimated investment is INR 270 Cr, which will be funded through internal accruals.
  • Rationale: The capacity expansion is aimed at meeting anticipated future demand.

These capacity additions by both Vedanta and Whirlpool of India Limited demonstrate their commitment to growth and their anticipation of increased demand in their respective sectors.
