Hyundai’s Expanding EV Charging Infrastructure
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is accelerating the growth of EV infrastructure in India with a focus on accessibility, convenience, and advanced technology. Here are the highlights of their initiatives:
Nationwide Expansion:
HMIL is establishing nearly 600 public EV fast charging stations across highways and major cities over the next seven years. These charging points aim to address concerns about long-distance EV travel. Currently, Hyundai boasts a network of over 10,000 EV charging points nationwide through collaborations with ChargeZone, Statiq, Shell India, and others.Charging Station Launch Goals:
Hyundai plans to operationalize 50 fast public charging stations by the end of December 2024. These stations will support all electric 4-wheelers manufactured in India. Strategically located at spots with amenities such as coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping centers, they also feature marshals to assist customers and 24/7 CCTV surveillance for safety.Partnership with Tamil Nadu:
HMIL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to install 100 EV charging stations across the state by 2027. By the end of 2024, ten stations will be operational, and currently, three are active in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai. These stations can be accessed via the myHyundai app.Advanced Charging Technology:
Hyundai’s charging stations offer chargers with advanced configurations:- DC 150 kW + DC 60 kW + DC 30 kW
- DC 150 kW + DC 30 kW
- DC 60 kW
HMIL has facilitated over 50,000 charging sessions, delivering more than 7.30 lakh units of energy to over 10,000 Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV customers.
Customer Convenience:
Through the ‘EV Charge’ feature on the myHyundai app, customers can access over 10,000 EV charging points nationwide. This network supports seamless EV travel across India.
With over 4,061 EVs sold as of November 2024, including the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and KONA, Hyundai’s initiatives are paving the way for an EV-friendly future in India.
