INOX India Wins Major Contract for LNG Terminal in The Bahamas: A Step Towards Clean Energy Transition

INOX India Ltd (INOXCVA), a leading company in cryogenic technology, has secured a significant contract from Island Power Producers Limited (IPP) to build a mini LNG receiving and regasification terminal in The Bahamas. This terminal will provide natural gas to IPP’s 60 MW power plant, which in turn will supply shore power to cruise ships at the Nassau Cruise Port. The terminal is set to become a pioneering model for LNG distribution, meeting various energy demands across The Bahamas.

Contract Highlights

  • Turnkey Project: INOX India will oversee the design, engineering, and complete supply for the terminal.
  • Largest of Its Kind Globally: With a storage capacity of 15,000 m³, this terminal will feature the world’s largest installation of shop-built, double-walled, vacuum-insulated cryogenic tanks.
  • Core Components:
    • Ten vacuum-insulated storage tanks with a 1,500 m³ capacity each, making these the largest tanks ever constructed by INOXCVA.
    • An advanced regasification system.

Key Project Significance

  • INOX India’s Largest LNG Order: This contract represents the largest order for INOX India’s LNG division to date.
  • Expanding Portfolio of Mini LNG Terminals: This will be INOXCVA’s third mini LNG terminal, with another recently completed in Antigua.
  • Support for Growing LNG Adoption: This project underscores the increasing use of LNG as a reliable fuel option, especially in remote regions.

Project Phases and Timeline

  • Phase 1: Completion of five LNG tanks and the regasification system by February 2026.
  • Phase 2: Completion of the remaining five tanks by June 2026.

Benefits and Broader Impact

  • LNG Distribution Model: The terminal is expected to act as a central hub for LNG distribution, serving smaller users and supporting a range of energy applications throughout The Bahamas.
  • Economic Opportunities: This project promises cost-effective energy solutions, creating economic growth opportunities within The Bahamas and the surrounding region.
  • Environmental Advantages: By facilitating LNG use, the project will reduce carbon emissions, helping The Bahamas progress toward its carbon reduction objectives.
