L&T Secures Major Contracts in Africa and the Middle East for Power Transmission & Distribution Expansion

Larsen & Toubro, an Indian multinational with revenue of USD 27 billion, specializes in EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing, and services, and operates in over 50 countries. Known for its customer-focused approach and commitment to quality, L&T has sustained its leadership in key business areas for over 80 years.

Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division has secured new contracts in the Middle East and Africa to expand and enhance high-voltage electricity grids. These orders include implementing a country-wide Energy Management System for a national power network.

Among the projects, L&T, in partnership with a major original equipment manufacturer, will establish Kenya’s new National System Control Centre. This key transmission hub will regulate power flow across the country, integrating diverse energy sources and dispatching power based on merit order. It will play a vital role in maintaining stable, efficient, and reliable grid operations, especially with the addition of variable renewable energy sources and the development of high-voltage regional interconnections. The project also includes setting up a backup energy management system at a secondary location.

The company defines order values as follows: a significant order ranges from Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore; a large order falls between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore; a major order is valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 7,000 crore; and a mega order is any order above Rs 7,000 crore.

For this project, L&T will draw on its extensive experience in transmission and distribution projects, as well as its expertise in Digital Energy Solutions.

In the Middle East, L&T has been awarded contracts for the turnkey construction of high-voltage transmission lines in Saudi Arabia, and additional orders for Gas Insulated Substations as part of Qatar’s ongoing power system expansion.
