In a significant boost to India’s railway infrastructure, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has secured a major contract from Southern Railway. The state-owned enterprise announced the receipt of a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for a project worth approximately ₹145.35 crore, aimed at enhancing electrification and operational efficiency in the Jolarpettai Junction to Salem Junction section. This development aligns with the broader mission to achieve a 3000MT freight loading target, underscoring RVNL’s pivotal role in modernizing India’s rail network.
The LOA, disclosed under Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, outlines a comprehensive scope of work. RVNL will handle the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of Scott-Connected Traction Substations. Key components include:
- Power Quality Compensating Equipment: To ensure stable and efficient power supply.
- Associated Switching Posts (SP/SSP): For the 2×25 kV AT Feeding System.
- SCADA System: For real-time monitoring and control.
- Automatic Fault Locator (AFL): To quickly identify and resolve issues in the rail network.
The project focuses on the Jolarpettai Jn. – Salem Jn. (JTJ-SA) section in the Salem Division of Southern Railway. With a timeline of 540 days for execution, this domestic contract falls under RVNL’s normal course of business and involves no related party transactions. The total cost stands at ₹145,34,66,865.48 (including applicable taxes), highlighting the scale of investment in upgrading freight capabilities.
This initiative is part of the ambitious “Mission 3000MT” loading target, which aims to ramp up freight capacity across India’s railways. By incorporating advanced technologies like SCADA and AFL, the project will improve reliability, reduce downtime, and support higher freight volumes—crucial for economic growth in sectors like manufacturing and logistics.
