PTC Industries Limited Secures Landmark DIDO Order for Titanium Cradle

July 23, 2026: PTC Industries Limited has secured a significant design and development contract from the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), a premier laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The order marks an important milestone in the company’s journey toward becoming a design-led engineering partner for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Under the contract, PTC Industries will design and develop a Titanium Cradle for the 105mm Indian Light Tank program, strengthening its role in the development of advanced defence platforms under India’s self-reliance initiatives.

Titanium Cradle for Indian Light Tank

The Titanium Cradle is a critical structural component of the tank’s weapon system.

It performs several essential functions, including:

  • Supporting the main gun barrel and breech assembly
  • Housing and securing the recoil mechanism
  • Transferring firing forces safely to the turret structure
  • Ensuring structural stability during combat operations

The use of titanium provides high strength while significantly reducing overall system weight, making it well suited for next-generation lightweight combat vehicles.

A Shift from Manufacturing to Engineering Design

The project represents a strategic evolution for PTC Industries.

Traditionally known for manufacturing precision-engineered components based on customer specifications, the company is now moving higher up the value chain by participating in the design and development of critical defence systems.

This transition allows PTC Industries to contribute engineering expertise alongside advanced manufacturing capabilities, creating greater long-term value and strengthening its technological capabilities.

Leveraging Titanium Expertise

Titanium is increasingly becoming a preferred material in defence and aerospace applications due to its unique combination of properties, including:

  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Excellent fatigue resistance
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Enhanced durability under demanding operating conditions

These characteristics make titanium particularly suitable for lightweight military platforms that require high performance without compromising structural integrity.

Strengthening the PTC ONE™ Ecosystem

The project further expands the company’s PTC ONE™ – From Melt to Mission™ integrated manufacturing ecosystem.

By adding engineering design capabilities to its existing expertise in metallurgy, casting, machining, and precision manufacturing, PTC Industries is positioning itself as a comprehensive solutions provider for the aerospace and defence sectors.

Expanding Opportunities in Defence Manufacturing

The successful development of the Titanium Cradle could open opportunities for PTC Industries across a wider range of defence applications, including:

  • Advanced artillery systems
  • Armoured combat vehicles
  • Lightweight defence platforms
  • Aerospace structural components
  • Next-generation mobility solutions

Participation in design-led projects also strengthens the company’s prospects for future production orders as defence programs move into commercial manufacturing.

Strategic Importance for Investors

Unlike conventional manufacturing contracts, design and development projects provide companies with opportunities to build specialized engineering expertise and develop intellectual property.

As India continues to emphasize indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, companies with advanced design and material capabilities are expected to play an increasingly important role in future defence programs.

The latest order reinforces PTC Industries’ growing position in India’s defence supply chain and highlights its expanding capabilities in high-value engineering solutions.
