Tata Elxsi Partners with SCTIMST to Advance Healthcare Innovation and Medical Technology Development

Strategic collaboration combines clinical research, AI, and engineering expertise to develop next-generation healthcare solutions for India and global markets

Tata Elxsi Limited (NSE: TATAELXSI | BSE: 500408) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, to accelerate innovation in healthcare and medical technology. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing next-generation medical technologies by combining clinical expertise, biomedical research, and advanced engineering capabilities.

Collaboration to Drive Next-Generation Healthcare Solutions

SCTIMST, an Institution of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, will work alongside Tata Elxsi to develop innovative healthcare solutions for both domestic and international markets.

The partnership will leverage SCTIMST’s strengths in cardiovascular sciences, neurosciences, biotechnology, and clinical sciences, together with Tata Elxsi’s expertise in product engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, and design. The collaboration will focus on several high-growth healthcare segments, including:

  • Medical devices
  • Digital health solutions
  • Medical imaging
  • Diagnostics
  • Biomedical engineering
  • Advanced healthcare technologies

The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director of SCTIMST, and Manoj Raghavan, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Elxsi, along with senior representatives from both organizations.

Building an Integrated MedTech Innovation Ecosystem

Unlike traditional industry-academia partnerships, the collaboration establishes a comprehensive innovation ecosystem that integrates clinicians, researchers, advanced laboratories, prototyping facilities, and engineering teams under a single framework.

According to the companies, this integrated approach will help medical technology companies accelerate product development, validation, and commercialization while strengthening capabilities in areas such as biocompatibility testing, toxicology, and regulatory readiness.

Focus on Research, Technology Development and Intellectual Property

The agreement provides a framework for:

  • Joint research initiatives
  • Healthcare technology development
  • Academic collaboration
  • Project-specific innovation programs
  • Intellectual property (IP) creation

The initial phase of the partnership will identify high-potential projects for collaborative research and product development, laying the foundation for long-term innovation in healthcare technologies.

Management Commentary

Commenting on the partnership, Sreevatsa Sahasranaman, Senior Vice President and Head – Healthcare & Life Sciences at Tata Elxsi, said healthcare innovation increasingly depends on close collaboration between clinicians, scientists, and engineering teams.

He noted that SCTIMST’s strong research capabilities, combined with Tata Elxsi’s engineering and digital expertise, will enable the development of innovative healthcare products that can address evolving clinical needs in India while also serving global healthcare markets.
