Titagarh Naval Systems Launches Fifth & Final Diving Support Craft for Indian Navy
Titagarh Naval Systems Limited (TNSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), has achieved a significant milestone by launching the fifth and final Diving Support Craft (DSC A24 – Yard 329) for the Indian Navy. The launch completes the delivery series of five Diving Support Crafts being built under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative, further strengthening India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding capabilities.
Fifth Diving Support Craft Successfully Launched
The launch ceremony took place on 1 August 2026 at the company’s shipyard in Kolkata, where the vessel was ceremonially named and launched by Mrs. Kamal Singh, wife of Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Chief of Personnel, Indian Navy. The vessel was successfully side-launched into the Hooghly River in the presence of around 200 guests, marking the completion of an important defence shipbuilding program.
Advanced Indigenous Vessel for Critical Naval Operations
The Diving Support Crafts are catamaran-type vessels equipped with advanced indigenous systems designed to support the Indian Navy’s Command Clearance Diving Teams (CCDTs).
These vessels will perform a range of underwater missions, including:
- Underwater inspection and maintenance
- Harbour and near-shore repair operations
- Salvage and recovery missions
- Operational training for Indian Navy diving personnel
With nearly 70% indigenous content, the project reflects India’s growing capability in designing and manufacturing advanced defence vessels under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
Management Highlights Indigenous Manufacturing Strength
Speaking at the launch, Prithish Chowdhary, Deputy Managing Director of Titagarh Rail Systems, said the successful completion of the project demonstrates the strength of Indian engineering and manufacturing while reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat through world-class indigenous manufacturing.
Hemant Khatri, Managing Director and CEO of Titagarh Naval Systems, described the launch as a landmark achievement for naval shipbuilding in Eastern India. He noted that TNSL remains focused on delivering reliable, high-quality naval platforms while preparing for more advanced defence shipbuilding programs in the future.
Indian Navy Commends Indigenous Shipbuilding
Addressing the gathering, Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh highlighted that the launch represents years of planning, engineering, and collaboration between the Indian Navy and Indian industry. He emphasized that the project showcases the success of India’s self-reliance initiatives and demonstrates the growing partnership between defence forces and domestic manufacturers in building world-class naval assets.
TNSL Expands Maritime Infrastructure
The launch also marks an important step following the formation of Titagarh Naval Systems Limited, which was created through the strategic restructuring of Titagarh Rail Systems’ shipbuilding and maritime business.
To support future growth, TNSL is developing a state-of-the-art 50-acre shipyard at Falta, West Bengal. The upcoming facility will feature Industry 4.0-enabled automation and will be capable of constructing vessels up to 180 metres in length with an annual production capacity of 12–16 ships. The subsidiary currently has an approximate order book of ₹500 crore (including taxes) and will continue executing existing naval projects while pursuing new opportunities in defence and commercial shipbuilding through strategic partnerships.
