Kernex Microsystems Wins ₹66.62 Crore Kavach Order from Integral Coach Factory

Kernex Microsystems (India) Limited has secured a significant railway safety contract worth ₹66.62 crore (including GST) from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. The company disclosed the development through a regulatory filing under SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.

Order Details

According to the filing, Kernex Microsystems will supply, install, test, and commission On-board Kavach equipment for EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) and MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains.

The project also includes:

  • Supply of Kavach equipment
  • Installation on EMU and MEMU trains
  • Integration with the train’s electrical systems
  • Testing and commissioning
  • Warranty support
  • Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC)

The equipment will be installed as per RDSO Specification No. RDSO/SPN/196/2020 Version 4.0 or the latest applicable version, ensuring compliance with Indian Railways’ latest safety standards.

Contract Value and Timeline

The total value of the order is ₹66.62 crore (including GST).

Kernex Microsystems is required to complete the project on or before March 31, 2028.

About the Customer

The contract has been awarded by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, one of the largest coach manufacturing units of Indian Railways. The order is a domestic contract and forms part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to improve railway safety through the implementation of the Kavach train protection system.

What is Kavach?

Kavach is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system developed to improve railway safety. It helps prevent train collisions by automatically applying brakes when required, monitors train speed, and provides continuous communication between trains and railway signalling systems.

The Indian government has been expanding Kavach deployment across the railway network to enhance passenger safety and improve operational efficiency.

Kernex Microsystems confirmed that:

  • The order has been awarded by a domestic entity.
  • The promoter or promoter group has no interest in the awarding entity.
  • The contract does not qualify as a related party transaction.
