Eicher Motors Starts FY27 on a Strong Note with Record Q1 Performance
Eicher Motors Limited has kicked off FY27 with its best-ever first-quarter performance, driven by strong growth across both Royal Enfield and VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV). During the Q1 FY27 earnings conference call, the company highlighted record sales, expanding manufacturing capacity, new product launches, and continued global growth.
Record Quarter for Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield recorded its highest-ever quarterly motorcycle sales, selling 332,940 motorcycles during Q1 FY27, compared with 261,326 units in the same period last year.
- India sales: 301,174 motorcycles
- International sales: 31,766 motorcycles
The company said demand remained strong across domestic and international markets despite global economic uncertainties.
Flying Flea Electric Motorcycle Launched
One of the biggest highlights of the quarter was the commercial launch of Flying Flea C6, Royal Enfield’s first electric motorcycle.
The company has opened its first Flying Flea store in Bengaluru and has already begun customer deliveries. Encouraged by the positive response, Royal Enfield plans to expand to 10 retail touchpoints in Bengaluru before gradually entering other cities through a phased expansion strategy.
New Products Drive Growth
Royal Enfield continued to strengthen its product portfolio with several launches, including:
- Flying Flea C6 electric motorcycle
- Bullet 650
- New Hunter 350 variants and colours
- Guerrilla 450 APEX variant
The company also stated that both its 450cc and 650cc motorcycle segments have recovered to pre-GST demand levels, with additional product refreshes planned during the year.
Manufacturing Capacity Expansion
To support future demand, Eicher Motors announced a ₹1,225 crore investment for Phase 1 of a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Tada, Andhra Pradesh.
Key expansion plans include:
- Current production capacity: 1.5 million motorcycles annually
- Brownfield expansion at Cheyyar to increase capacity to 2 million units
- Greenfield Tada plant to take total capacity to 2.45 million motorcycles annually by FY30
Management also noted that production has increased to over 5,000 motorcycles per day, helping prepare for the upcoming festive season.
Strong International Business
International operations continued to perform well, with overseas revenue crossing ₹1,000 crore for the first time, contributing around 15% of Royal Enfield’s revenue.
Some key highlights include:
- Brazil remains the largest overseas market.
- Royal Enfield is now the No. 2 middleweight motorcycle brand in Brazil.
- Growth continues across Latin America, including Colombia, Argentina and Mexico.
- The company is evaluating a CKD assembly plant in Indonesia to expand its ASEAN presence.
VECV Delivers Best-Ever First Quarter
VE Commercial Vehicles also reported record Q1 sales.
Highlights include:
- 24,815 vehicles sold, up 14.8% YoY
- Revenue increased to ₹6,610 crore
- EBITDA stood at ₹541 crore
- Profit after tax rose to ₹300 crore
The company maintained its leadership in the light and medium-duty truck segment while expanding its small commercial vehicle portfolio and electric vehicle offerings.
Margins Face Commodity Cost Pressure
Management acknowledged higher raw material costs due to rising prices of steel, aluminium, copper, crude oil and precious metals.
To reduce the impact, Eicher Motors:
- Increased motorcycle prices by around 1.75%
- Continued value engineering initiatives
- Improved sourcing and inventory management
- Controlled discretionary marketing expenses during the quarter
The company expects commodity prices to gradually soften but remains cautious due to market volatility.
Positive Outlook for FY27
Management expressed confidence that strong bookings, healthy customer enquiries, new product launches and expanding production capacity will support continued growth throughout FY27. With low dealer inventory and production ramping up ahead of the festive season, Eicher Motors believes it is well positioned to meet increasing demand while strengthening its leadership in both motorcycles and commercial vehicles.
