BSE Q1 FY27 Results: Net Profit Jumps 66% YoY as Transaction Income Surges
BSE Limited (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) has released its Investor Presentation for Q1 FY27 (April–June 2026), reporting strong across-the-board growth driven by higher trading volumes in equity derivatives, robust listing activity, and continued expansion of its mutual fund distribution platform.
Key Financial Highlights (Consolidated)
- Total Income: Rs 17,068 million in Q1 FY27, up 63% YoY from Rs 10,445 million in Q1 FY26, and up 5% QoQ from Rs 16,302 million in Q4 FY26
- Revenue from Operations: Rs 15,661 million, up 63% YoY
- Net Profit (continuing operations): Rs 8,727 million, up 66% YoY from Rs 5,262 million, and up 10% QoQ
- EPS: Rs 21.22 for Q1 FY27, compared to Rs 12.80 in Q1 FY26
- Operating EBITDA: Rs 11,867 million, with a net margin of 51%
- Transaction Charges: Rs 13,277 million, up 80% YoY — the single largest driver of revenue growth
On a standalone basis, BSE posted total income of Rs 16,015 million (up 69% YoY) and net profit of Rs 8,012 million (up 71% YoY), with an operating EBITDA margin of 68% (excluding core Settlement Guarantee Fund contribution).
Segment-Wise Performance
Equity Cash Segment: Average Daily Turnover rose sharply to Rs 99,553 million in Q1 FY27 from Rs 71,801 million in Q1 FY26. Transaction charges income from this segment came in at Rs 654 million.
Equity Derivatives: This remains the standout growth engine. Average daily notional turnover reached Rs 237 trillion in Q1 FY27, supported by 600 registered members and 11.2 million Unique Client Codes (UCC). Total revenue from equity derivatives touched Rs 11,550 million for the quarter — up from just Rs 2 million in Q1 FY24, reflecting the segment’s relaunch trajectory since May 2023. BSE also expanded its derivatives suite with the launch of Sensex Focused IT Index derivatives on May 11, 2026.
BSE StAR Mutual Fund Platform: Order volumes reached 234 million in Q1 FY27 (up 28% YoY), and mutual fund revenue rose to Rs 733 million (up 20% YoY). The platform now covers 721 cities, works with 84,150 distributors, and serves 293 million registered investor folios across 50 registered mutual funds and 15,504 schemes.
Listing Services: Listing-related income stood at Rs 881 million for the quarter. On the primary market side, Q1 FY27 saw 8 mainboard IPOs (raising Rs 47 billion) and 9 SME IPOs (raising Rs 4 billion) — a slower quarter compared to the record FY26, when 109 mainboard IPOs raised Rs 1,771 billion.
BSE Clearing Limited (BSECL): Monthly settled turnover in equity derivatives reached Rs 4,027 billion in June 2026, with 1.36 billion equity derivative contracts settled during the month. BSECL holds AAA credit ratings from India Ratings and Care Ratings, and has scaled daily trade capacity to 10 crore (equity) and 9 crore (derivatives).
BSE Index Services (formerly Asia Index): Manages 200+ indices, including the flagship Sensex, with total AUM of Rs 9.78 lakh crore tracked against its indices. The subsidiary reported a 100% increase in revenue from core index operations and recently received Financial Benchmark Administration authorization from the RBI.
International Business (India INX): India INX recorded 9,547 trades worth $1,229 million in June 2026 alone, a sharp jump from earlier months. Its Global Access platform, offering access to 135+ global exchanges, processed 56,381 trades worth $584 million in June 2026 across 1,487 companies.
Balance Sheet & Shareholder Returns
- Consolidated Net Worth: Rs 75,468 million as of Q1 FY27, up from Rs 49,617 million in Q1 FY26
- Market Capitalization of BSE (the stock itself): Rs 15,69,933 million (~Rs 1.57 lakh crore) as of June 30, 2026
- Share Price: Rs 3,866, with a 52-week range of Rs 2,022–Rs 4,447
- FY26 Dividend: Rs 23 per share (28% payout ratio), part of cumulative dividends of Rs 17,733 million and buybacks of Rs 6,535 million since FY16
Shareholding Pattern (June 2026)
Public shareholders hold 33.9%, followed by FPIs/NRIs (24.7%), Qualified Institutional Buyers (12.1%), Mutual Funds (11.8%), Trading Members (7.7%), and Body Corporates (7.4%). Life Insurance Corporation of India remains the largest single shareholder at 5.57%.
