BirlaNu Q1 FY27: Rebranding, Record Growth and a Clear Roadmap for the Future

BirlaNu Q

BirlaNu Limited (formerly HIL Limited) has begun FY27 on a strong note, combining a new corporate identity with impressive financial performance. The company reported double-digit revenue growth, significant margin expansion, and sharp improvements in profitability despite global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty.

The quarter also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the nearly 80-year-old company as it transitions from HIL Limited to BirlaNu, reflecting its ambition to become a leading global provider of sustainable home and building solutions.

A New Identity with Global Ambitions

After operating as HIL Limited for decades, the company has officially rebranded itself as BirlaNu.

According to the management, the new name represents innovation, reinvention, and a future-focused approach while preserving the trust and legacy built since 1946. The company aims to position itself as a modern building solutions brand serving homeowners, architects, builders, and designers across the world.

Today, BirlaNu’s portfolio spans six major categories:

  • Pipes
  • Roofs
  • Walls
  • Floors
  • Construction Chemicals
  • Putty

This diversified portfolio allows the company to participate across the complete home and building construction value chain.

Strong Q1 FY27 Financial Performance

BirlaNu delivered healthy growth both on a standalone and consolidated basis during the June 2026 quarter.

Standalone Performance

Particulars Q1 FY27 Growth YoY
Revenue ₹824 Crore 10%
EBITDA ₹97 Crore 70%
Profit Before Tax ₹67 Crore 152%
Profit After Tax ₹50 Crore 153%

The significant jump in profitability reflects better operating efficiency, improved product mix, and higher margins across key business segments.

Consolidated Performance

The company also reported strong consolidated numbers despite weakness in its European flooring business.

Particulars Q1 FY27 Growth YoY
Revenue ₹1,174 Crore 12%
EBITDA ₹80 Crore 35%
Profit Before Tax ₹25 Crore 390%
Profit After Tax ₹9 Crore Turned Profitable

Consolidated revenue crossed ₹1,170 crore, while profitability improved sharply compared to the previous year.

Domestic Business Continues to Drive Growth

India remained the biggest growth engine for BirlaNu during the quarter.

The company’s domestic business generated revenue of ₹833 crore, while EBITDA surged by more than 70%. Operating margins expanded by over 400 basis points, highlighting successful cost optimization and improved execution.

Management attributed the performance to stronger demand, disciplined pricing, and operational improvements across manufacturing and distribution.

Roofs Business Delivers Record Quarter

The standout performer during the quarter was the Roofs segment.

Revenue increased 17% year-on-year to ₹517 crore, making it the first time this business crossed the ₹500 crore quarterly revenue milestone.

Segment profit before tax jumped by more than 50%, supported by:

  • Higher demand
  • Better product mix
  • Improved operating leverage

The Charminar roofing brand continues to maintain its leadership position in the Indian roofing market.

Walls Business Maintains Healthy Momentum

The Walls segment also delivered a solid performance.

Revenue increased 14% to ₹156 crore, driven by healthy demand for:

  • AAC Blocks
  • Panels
  • Fibre Cement Boards

Profitability improved sharply as manufacturing efficiencies and higher volumes supported margin expansion.

Pipes and Construction Chemicals Show Mixed Performance

The Pipes and Construction Chemicals business reported revenue growth of 12%, reaching ₹341 crore.

Although the segment remained loss-making during the quarter, management highlighted that various sales acceleration initiatives have already started delivering encouraging results.

The company also launched several next-generation products in:

  • Waterproofing
  • Repair & Rehabilitation
  • High-performance construction chemicals

These categories are expected to become important long-term growth drivers.

Parador Faces European Headwinds

BirlaNu’s global flooring brand Parador continued to face challenges due to weak demand across Europe, primarily because of geopolitical tensions affecting global trade and construction activity.

While revenue remained broadly stable, profitability came under pressure because of higher costs.

However, management remains optimistic due to:

  • Order book increasing by nearly 10%
  • Expansion into the US market
  • Growth in India
  • Increasing focus on commercial customers
  • Business transformation initiatives supported by Boston Consulting Group (BCG)

The company expects Parador’s performance to improve during the second half of FY27.

Capacity Expansion Continues

BirlaNu is investing aggressively to support future demand.

Major expansion projects include:

  • New board manufacturing plant near Hyderabad
  • Upcoming greenfield manufacturing facility in Nellore
  • Expansion of brownfield AAC Blocks capacity at Chennai
  • Acquisition of Clean Coats Private Limited

These investments are expected to strengthen the company’s manufacturing footprint across India.

Digital Transformation and AI Strategy

One of the most notable developments in the presentation was BirlaNu’s focus on artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

The company has started implementing an enterprise-wide AI roadmap across multiple business functions.

Key initiatives include:

  • AI-powered demand forecasting
  • Industry 4.0 manufacturing
  • AI-assisted research and product development
  • WhatsApp and voice-enabled customer engagement
  • Advanced analytics for business planning
  • Enhanced cybersecurity infrastructure

These initiatives aim to improve efficiency, customer experience, and long-term competitiveness.

Sustainability Remains a Core Priority

BirlaNu continues to integrate sustainability into its operations.

Some key initiatives include:

  • Expansion of solar power capacity
  • Greater use of renewable energy
  • Water conservation
  • Circular economy practices
  • Green-certified products
  • Responsible sourcing

Beyond environmental initiatives, the company is also investing in community development through mental health programs and skill development initiatives for plumbers, painters, and applicators.

Strong Global Presence

BirlaNu today operates one of the largest building material platforms in the sector.

Its global footprint includes:

  • Operations in over 80 countries
  • More than 30,000 retail touchpoints
  • Network of 21,000+ channel partners
  • 33 manufacturing facilities across India, Germany, and Austria
  • Workforce of over 7,000 employees

Its brand portfolio includes well-known names such as:

  • Charminar Roofing
  • Aerocon AAC Blocks
  • BirlaNu Leakproof Pipes
  • BirlaNu Construction Chemicals
  • BirlaNu TruColour Putty
  • Parador Flooring
  • Clean Coats

Management Outlook

Managing Director & CEO Akshat Seth acknowledged that geopolitical tensions, volatile freight costs, currency fluctuations, and raw material inflation remain challenges for the coming quarters.

However, management believes the company is well positioned to navigate these risks through:

  • Operational discipline
  • Capacity expansion
  • Product innovation
  • Digital transformation
  • Brand investments
  • Cost optimization initiatives

The company expects these strategic initiatives to support sustained growth and profitability over the long term.
