Stocks to Watch on Monday, August 17, 2026 (MSCI, NIFTY50)

The Indian stock market will begin a new trading week on Monday, 17 August 2026, with investors tracking corporate developments, index changes, quarterly results, dividend actions and global market cues.

After a volatile week, traders should keep an eye not only on individual stocks but also on FII flows, crude oil, the rupee, global markets and geopolitical developments.

Nifty 50 Index Addition & Deletion

BSE remains one of the most important stocks to watch after the NSE announced that BSE will replace Wipro in the Nifty 50 index from September 30, 2026.

The announcement had a strong impact on BSE shares, while Wipro came under pressure. The expected index inclusion could continue to keep BSE in the spotlight as investors assess potential passive fund flows.

Wipro is likely to remain on the radar after being selected for removal from the Nifty 50.

The change is particularly important for index-tracking funds and could influence trading sentiment around the stock ahead of the actual index rebalancing.

MSCI Index Addition

Laurus Labs has emerged as one of the major beneficiaries of the latest MSCI India index review.

The company will be added to the MSCI Global Standard Index effective September 1, with analysts estimating significant potential passive inflows.

Lenskart is another stock that could remain active following its inclusion in the MSCI Global Standard Index.

The company is expected to receive significant passive fund flows as index-tracking investors adjust their portfolios.

Adani Energy Solutions has also been added to the MSCI Global Standard Index.

The MSCI review estimates potential passive inflows of around $310 million, making the stock an important one to monitor.

Groww’s parent company, Billionbrains Garage Ventures, is another new MSCI Standard Index constituent.

The stock could remain active as investors assess the potential impact of index-linked buying.

Eternal is worth watching because the MSCI review is expected to increase its index weight.

Reports estimate potential passive inflows of around $674 million, making it one of the larger flow-related opportunities from the latest MSCI changes.

Adani Enterprises could also attract attention because of an expected increase in its MSCI weight.

The estimated passive inflow is around $202 million, according to the MSCI review-related estimates.

MSCI Index Deletion :

Investors should also monitor stocks facing removal from the MSCI Global Standard Index.

These include:

  • Balkrishna Industries
  • SBI Cards
  • Astral

The reported estimated passive outflows are approximately $169 million, $143 million and $138 million, respectively.

These figures are estimates and actual market flows can differ.

MSCI weight

Reliance Industries

Reliance Industries is an important stock to monitor because its MSCI weight is expected to be reduced.

The estimated passive outflow is around $523 million, according to reported MSCI flow estimates.

Reliance also ended Friday, August 14, lower at ₹1,308, making it an important large-cap stock to watch for Monday’s market direction.

Dividend and Corporate Actions on August 17

Monday also has several corporate actions.

Stocks listed for dividend/ex-date activity on August 17 include Panama Petrochem, Hisar Metal Industries, OCCL, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Organic Recycling Systems and NIIT, among others.

Investors holding these stocks should check the applicable record dates and corporate-action details before taking any trading decision.

Other Corporate Events

The corporate calendar for August 17 also includes several board meetings, AGMs, preferential issues and results-related events.

Among the companies appearing on the calendar are Fineotex Chemical, Cressanda Railway, GAMCO, Regency Fincorp, Shree Ram Proteins and IndoMIM.

These smaller companies can sometimes experience higher volatility around corporate announcements, so traders should verify the exchange filing before taking positions.

What Could Drive the Nifty on Monday?

Individual stocks will not be the only factor determining Monday’s market direction.

Crude Oil

Any movement in crude oil prices could have a significant impact on Indian equities, particularly because India is a major importer of crude.

US and Asian Markets

The opening direction of Asian markets and the latest US market performance will provide the first major global cues for Indian investors.

Dollar/Rupee

Movement in the US dollar against the Indian rupee could influence FII sentiment and sectors such as IT, oil & gas and financials.

FII and DII Activity

Foreign institutional investor flows remain an important short-term market indicator. Traders should check the latest cash-market buying and selling data before taking positions.

Geopolitical Developments

Any fresh development relating to the Middle East or US-Iran tensions could quickly affect crude prices and risk sentiment.

Important Point for Traders

The MSCI-related changes are scheduled to take effect later, so investors should not assume that an expected index inclusion or exclusion will automatically result in a one-way move on August 17.

For intraday and F&O traders, the better approach is to first watch the Nifty opening, Bank Nifty, global cues, crude oil, USD/INR and FII activity, and then look for confirmation in individual stocks.

Monday’s market could therefore be driven by a combination of global sentiment + index-flow expectations + company-specific developments.
