JSW Infrastructure Gets LOI to Set Up First Inland Container Depot in Ballari, Karnataka

JSW Infrastructure Gets LOI to Set Up First Inland Container Depot in Ballari, Karnataka

JSW Infrastructure Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) to establish an Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Kudathini in Ballari district, Karnataka. The project is expected to strengthen the company’s multimodal logistics presence in the region and expand its ability to handle import and export cargo.

The company disclosed the development on September 11, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations.

LOI Received for Inland Container Depot

JSW Port Logistics Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Infrastructure, has received the LOI from the Inter-Ministerial Committee, Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.

The proposed ICD will be established at Village Kudathini, Ballari district, Karnataka, and will handle import and export cargo.

According to the company, this will be the first Inland Container Depot in the Ballari region.

Project Linked to Existing Rail Siding

The development builds on JSW Infrastructure’s earlier plans for the Kudathini logistics facility.

In September 2025, JSW Port Logistics acquired a brownfield rail siding at Kudathini, Ballari, with the objective of developing a Multi-Modal Logistics Park, including a fully equipped ICD.

The company subsequently commenced interim operations at the rail siding in March 2026.

The new LOI represents another step in the development of this logistics infrastructure.

ICD to Handle Import and Export Cargo

The proposed facility will provide infrastructure for handling EXIM cargo, potentially improving cargo movement between industrial clusters in the Ballari region and ports or other logistics networks.

The company has not disclosed any order value or financial consideration for the LOI.

ICD to Become Operational Within One Year

As per the LOI terms, the ICD is required to be made operational within one year from the date of issue of the LOI.

This makes execution and commissioning the next key milestones for investors to monitor.

The company will need to develop the necessary infrastructure and complete the required processes to make the facility operational within the stipulated timeframe.

Strategic Importance for JSW Infrastructure

The Kudathini project fits into JSW Infrastructure’s broader strategy of expanding beyond conventional port operations into integrated logistics and multimodal transportation.

The combination of a rail siding and an Inland Container Depot can provide a more integrated logistics offering, particularly for industrial customers requiring movement of cargo by rail and other transport modes.

The fact that the proposed ICD would be the first ICD in the Ballari region also gives the project strategic significance for the company’s regional logistics expansion.

What Investors Should Watch

For JSW Infrastructure investors, the immediate focus should be on the company’s execution of the Kudathini project.

The key developments to monitor are:

  • Construction and development progress of the ICD
  • Commissioning within the one-year timeline
  • Cargo volumes after commencement
  • Customer additions
  • Rail-linked cargo movement
  • Utilisation of the existing rail siding
  • Development of the broader Multi-Modal Logistics Park
  • Revenue contribution from the facility over time

At this stage, no order value or financial consideration has been disclosed, so the immediate stock-market impact is likely to depend more on the perceived strategic value of the project than on a directly quantifiable earnings impact.

Bottom Line

JSW Infrastructure has taken another step in expanding its multimodal logistics network with the LOI for an Inland Container Depot at Kudathini, Ballari.

The facility is planned to handle import and export cargo and is required to become operational within one year. The project is also connected to the company’s existing rail siding and its longer-term plan to develop a Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Kudathini.

For investors, the key question now is whether JSW Infrastructure can commission the ICD on schedule and build meaningful cargo volumes and utilisation once operations begin.
