Retail Lending Remains the Main Growth Driver

Retail lending continues to account for the majority of Piramal Finance’s business.

Retail AUM increased 32% year-on-year to ₹91,249 crore in Q1 FY27. Retail disbursements increased 44% YoY.

The company’s mortgage portfolio remains its largest retail segment, with housing loans and loan against property (LAP) together accounting for a substantial portion of retail AUM.

Piramal Finance reported mortgage AUM of ₹61,199 crore, representing around 67% of retail AUM.

The company has also been expanding its presence in unsecured lending, used-car finance, rural lending, and gold loans.

Branch Network Expands to 780 Locations

Piramal Finance had 780 branches across 26 states as of June 2026.

The company is continuing to expand its branch network while focusing on improving productivity from existing locations.

Its rural strategy is also gaining scale, with rural micro-loan AUM reaching ₹1,547 crore, up 101% YoY.

Micro-loan disbursements increased 296% YoY during the quarter.

Gold Loan Business Enters Expansion Phase

Piramal Finance has also started scaling its gold loan business.

The company said it completed the first phase of its rollout with 67 branches and has started Phase 2.

The company is targeting 200 gold-loan branches by the end of FY27.

Gold loans generated ₹6 crore of disbursements in the first full month of operations in June 2026.

Wholesale Lending AUM Rises 27%

Wholesale AUM stood at ₹13,238 crore, representing a 27% YoY increase.

Wholesale disbursements were ₹2,604 crore during Q1 FY27, while repayments were ₹1,932 crore.

The company said repayments remained strong, supported by a favourable environment for borrower cash flows.

The wholesale portfolio is being built around real estate and corporate mid-market loans, with the company highlighting a diversified and granular portfolio.

Asset Quality Shows Improvement

Asset quality remained an important positive in the Q1 FY27 presentation.

Piramal Finance reported a gross NPA ratio of 2.4%, compared with 2.8% in Q1 FY26.

The net NPA ratio stood at 1.6%, compared with 2.0% a year earlier.

The company’s AI initiatives include:

  • AI-assisted bank statement analysis

  • Voice AI for customer interactions
  • AI-powered collections
  • Customer onboarding through bots
  • AI-assisted employee hiring

The company said AI has helped increase average decisioned amounts per credit manager from ₹8.6 crore in Q1 FY25 to ₹12.6 crore in Q1 FY27.

Investor Meeting on September 22

The upcoming Anand Rathi Annual Flagship Conference – G-200 Summit 2026 provides investors with an opportunity to interact with Piramal Finance’s management.

The company is likely to face questions around its retail growth strategy, asset quality, margins, cost efficiency, rural and gold-loan expansion, AI adoption and its long-term profitability targets.

Piramal Finance has previously outlined long-range objectives that include approximately doubling AUM in around three years and achieving a growth-business RoAUM above 3%.

What Investors Should Watch

For Piramal Finance investors, the key indicators going forward will be:

  • Retail AUM growth and disbursement momentum
  • Sustainability of the 6.5% NIM
  • Credit costs and asset quality
  • Progress toward the 3%+ RoAUM objective
  • Operating leverage and cost-to-income improvement
  • Performance of rural and gold-loan businesses
  • Wholesale portfolio quality and repayments
  • Impact of AI on productivity and operating costs

The combination of strong AUM growth, higher profitability and improving asset quality makes the Q1 FY27 presentation an important update for investors tracking Piramal Finance.
