Stock Market Today:(25 September 2026) Nifty, Bank Nifty Recover After Sharp Sell-Off; Crude Oil, US Yields and Global Events in Focus

Indian stock markets recovered on Friday, September 25, after the sharp sell-off seen in the previous session. The Nifty 50 moved back above the 23,100 mark, while the Nifty Bank also recovered as buying emerged in selected banking, auto and financial stocks.

However, the market remained volatile as investors continued to monitor crude oil prices, elevated US Treasury yields, the rupee and developments around the US-Iran conflict.

Thursday’s session saw the Nifty fall 383.70 points, or 1.64%, to 23,063.10, while the Sensex declined 1,247.71 points. The Nifty Bank had fallen 1.96% to 55,438.50.

Nifty 50 Today

The Nifty 50 recovered from Thursday’s decline and moved back above 23,100 during Friday’s session.

The index had opened with modest gains and traded in positive territory as investors looked for value after the previous day’s sell-off. Auto, private banks and selected financial stocks supported the recovery, while IT stocks remained under pressure.

The key levels investors are watching remain around 23,000 on the downside and 23,200–23,300 on the upside. A sustained move above the higher zone would be important for the near-term market structure, while weakness below 23,000 could keep volatility elevated.

Bank Nifty Today

The Nifty Bank also recovered after falling nearly 2% in Thursday’s session.

Nifty Bank had closed at 55,438.50 on Thursday, down 1,110.40 points or 1.96%. On Friday, banking stocks saw selective buying, helping the index recover from the previous day’s losses.

The 55,000–55,400 zone remains an important area to watch, while a sustained recovery above the 55,700–56,000 region would improve the short-term setup.

Stock up today :

HEROMOTORS (+19.99%) — Hero Motors hit the 20% upper circuit for the third straight trading session after its IPO listing, with strong post-listing buying despite its ₹84 issue price and ₹82 debut.

SHANTIGOLD (+11.52%) — Shanti Gold is seeing strong buying after recent earnings and continued interest in the jewellery business; its Q1 FY27 EPS rose to ₹7.00 from ₹4.56 a year earlier.

WHIRLPOOL (+5.87%) — Whirlpool of India rallied after the company clarified that its promoter, Whirlpool Mauritius, is still exploring a potential stake sale to a third party, keeping takeover-related speculation in focus.

WELCORP (+4.91%) — Welspun Corp surged after its US subsidiary won a $412.5 million (~₹4,000 crore) HFIW pipe order, taking its global order book to a record $4.7 billion.

Blue Cloud Softech Solutions Limited (11.62%) has secured a US$15.5 million fixed-fee order from IBM Cloud Inc. for AI infrastructure design, deployment, and support services.

Stock down today :

SSRETAIL (-10.69%) — SS Retail is seeing profit booking after its strong IPO listing and a sharp rally over the past two sessions. The stock had opened at ₹624 on September 23 against its ₹424 issue price and gained substantially after listing, making today’s decline look largely like post-listing profit-taking.

OLAELEC (-9.83%) — Ola Electric fell after a four-session rally, with investors booking profits ahead of the September 28 board meeting to consider a proposed rights issue. The potential fundraising remains the key near-term trigger for the stock.

POLICYBZR (-3.41%) — Policybazaar parent PB Fintech remains under pressure after IRDAI’s proposed changes to insurance commissions and expense-of-management rules raised concerns about the company’s distribution economics. Brokerages have also flagged potential earnings risks from the proposed changes.

Major Events & News Impact Today :

Crude oil remains near $99— Brent was around $105–106/barrel, keeping inflation, India’s import bill, and corporate margins under pressure.

US Treasury yields remain elevated — High US bond yields are reducing global risk appetite and remain a key headwind for emerging-market equities.

Middle East tensions continue to drive oil and risk sentiment —Iran has signalled openness to a seven-day plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with the US, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying Tehran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz after seven days if certain conditions are met, followed by broader talks on Iran’s nuclear programme. The development has raised hopes of de-escalation and a potential easing of pressure on crude oil, although negotiations remain conditional and no final ceasefire agreement has been confirmed.

Trump-Xi talks remain a global market focus — US-China discussions are being watched for signals on trade, technology and broader geopolitical relations.

Insurance regulation weighs on financial stocks — Proposed changes concerning insurance commissions and expense structures have raised concerns about earnings for insurance distributors such as PB Fintech and contributed to pressure on financial stocks.
