Grasim Industries Achieves Full-Scale Operations: All 6 Birla Opus Paint Plants Begin Commercial Production

Grasim Industries Limited has reached a significant milestone in its paints business with the start of commercial production at its Kharagpur plant in West Bengal on October 15, 2025. This marks the full-scale rollout of all six Birla Opus paint manufacturing facilities across India.

Kharagpur Plant Highlights

The newly operational Kharagpur facility produces decorative paints under Grasim’s flagship brand, Birla Opus. The plant’s installed capacity includes:

  • Water-Based Paint: 180 Million Litres Per Annum (MLPA)

  • Distemper: 20 MLPA

  • Solvent-Based Paint: 30 MLPA

  • Colorants: 6 MLPA

⚙️ Note: While solvent-based paint production has commenced, the resin manufacturing block is yet to be commissioned. For now, resin requirements are being met through supplies from other Birla Opus plants.

Grasim’s Paints Expansion Milestone

With Kharagpur now operational, all six Birla Opus greenfield paint plants are in commercial production, bringing Grasim’s total installed capacity to a remarkable 1,332 Million Litres Per Annum (MLPA).

This large-scale capacity is designed to serve the domestic decorative paints market, positioning Grasim as a formidable player in India’s rapidly expanding paints industry.

The update was shared under Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, underscoring Grasim’s ongoing transparency and growth momentum in its new-age business ventures.
