VA TECH WABAG Secures Landmark $30-75M Donauinsel Water Works Expansion in Vienna

In a significant win that underscores its growing European footprint, VA TECH WABAG Limited (WABAG), a global leader in water technology, has announced securing a ‘Large’ order for the expansion of the Donauinsel Water Works in Vienna, Austria. This multi-million dollar contract, officially classified in the USD 30-75 million range, solidifies WABAG’s standing as a premier provider of integrated, climate-resilient water solutions for major public utilities.

The project, awarded by the City of Vienna, is a cornerstone of the city’s ambitious “Wiener Wasser 2050” strategy, representing one of its most critical drinking water infrastructure investments in decades. WABAG will be responsible for the complete technological package, including advanced process engineering, electrical systems, and cutting-edge instrumentation. The new facility will boast a modern multi-barrier treatment process, incorporating oxidation, ozonation, advanced oxidation, filtration, activated carbon filtration, and UV disinfection.

With a design capacity of up to 1,000 litres per second (approximately 86 MLD), this expansion will significantly bolster Vienna’s long-term drinking water supply. It introduces a vital groundwater-based supply pillar, enhancing the resilience of the city’s water system against the challenges of a growing population and climate change.

Mahmut Gedek, CEO – Europe Cluster, highlighted the project as a “landmark” for Vienna’s water security and a strong validation of WABAG’s technological prowess. Scheduled for completion and commissioning by 2030, this flagship reference project reinforces WABAG’s strategic focus on the European market, signalling robust growth and sustained expertise in critical environmental infrastructure. For investors, this ‘Large’ order signifies strong revenue visibility and a deepened presence in a stable, high-value market.
