Actualas Chemicals Inaugurates Semiconductor Materials Plant in South Korea

Acutaas Chemicals Limited, formerly known as Ami Organics Limited, has announced the inauguration of a new semiconductor materials manufacturing plant by its step-down subsidiary, Indichem Inc., in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea.

The company disclosed the development on August 28, 2026, through a press release filed with the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Semiconductor Materials Plant Completed in 11 Months

The Gongju facility has been completed in just 11 months following the groundbreaking ceremony held on September 29, 2025.

The plant spans 16,513.7 square metres and comprises three key buildings:

  • Main production block
  • Headquarters, R&D and pilot plant
  • Warehouse

The site also has additional land available for future expansion.

₹200 Crore Investment in South Korean Venture

Indichem Inc. was established in 2025 as a joint venture between Acutaas Advance Material Limited (AAML), a wholly owned subsidiary of Acutaas Chemicals, and South Korea-based J & Materials Co. Ltd.

Under the joint venture structure, AAML holds a 75% stake, while J & Materials owns the remaining 25%.

Acutaas Chemicals said AAML has invested KRW 30 billion, equivalent to approximately ₹200 crore, in Indichem Inc.

India-Korea Two-Country Manufacturing Model

The new venture is based on a two-country operating model designed to combine the strengths of India and South Korea.

Under the model, chemicals will be synthesised in India, while they will be refined, tested and qualified to semiconductor-grade standards in South Korea.

The location in South Korea provides Indichem with proximity to major semiconductor customers and manufacturing clusters. The company believes the model can create operational and technological synergies while supporting a more geographically diversified supply chain.

Focus on Ultra-High-Purity Semiconductor Chemicals

Semiconductor manufacturing requires highly specialised materials with extremely stringent purity requirements. According to Acutaas Chemicals, the niche materials targeted by Indichem require parts-per-billion levels of purity, making advanced technical capabilities and rigorous quality control essential.

Indichem will initially focus on high-purity chemicals for semiconductor applications, with the broader opportunity also covering the semiconductor and IT/display industries.

Management Commentary

Naresh Patel, Chairman & Managing Director of Acutaas Chemicals, said the inauguration represents an important milestone in the company’s semiconductor materials strategy.

He highlighted the combination of India’s capabilities in complex chemical synthesis with South Korea’s expertise in ultra-high-purity refining. According to the company, this integrated model is intended to support the scaling of its semiconductor materials business into a long-term growth opportunity.

Jay Han, Chief Executive Officer of Indichem Inc., said the company has adopted a strategy of bringing India’s chemical synthesis capabilities closer to Korean customers rather than requiring customers to source directly from India.

Indichem’s Strategic Location

Indichem is headquartered in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, within reach of major semiconductor and display manufacturing clusters.

The company was incorporated in 2025 and is focused on developing specialty chemicals for the semiconductor and IT/display industries.

Its stated objective is to build a high-purity and cost-competitive materials supply chain combining Indian chemical synthesis with Korean refining, potentially providing customers with greater supply-chain resilience and geographical diversification.

Acutaas Chemicals Expanding Beyond Pharmaceuticals

Acutaas Chemicals, formerly known as Ami Organics, is a research-driven specialty chemicals manufacturer headquartered in Surat, Gujarat.

The company has traditionally focused on pharmaceutical intermediates, including advanced intermediates for regulated and generic APIs as well as intermediates for New Chemical Entities (NCEs).

It is now expanding into high-value specialty chemicals serving emerging technology sectors, including:

  • Semiconductor materials
  • Battery chemicals
  • Next-generation electronic applications
  • Personal care
  • Agrochemicals
  • Fine chemicals

The semiconductor materials initiative therefore represents part of Acutaas Chemicals’ broader strategy to diversify its specialty chemicals portfolio.

Key Takeaways for Investors

The inauguration of the Gongju plant marks a significant step in Acutaas Chemicals’ entry into the semiconductor materials market. The company’s 75%-owned Indichem venture, combined with the ₹200 crore investment and India-Korea manufacturing model, provides the company with a platform to target high-purity semiconductor chemical opportunities in South Korea.

Investors will likely track the commercialisation of the facility, customer qualifications, production ramp-up, capacity expansion and the contribution of semiconductor materials to Acutaas Chemicals’ future revenue and profitability.

However, the company is entering a highly specialised market where customer qualification and stringent purity requirements can make commercial scale-up a gradual process.
