Oil India Signs MoU with MCD to Set Up Compressed Bio-Gas Plants in Delhi

Oil India Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to establish Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants using segregated organic municipal solid waste generated in the national capital.

The MoU was signed on July 30, 2026, in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, senior officials from the Delhi Government, MCD, and Oil India Limited.

Key Project Highlights

  • Project: Development of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants in Delhi.
  • Number of Plants: Two proposed CBG facilities.
  • Processing Capacity: 500 tonnes per day (TPD) and 300 TPD, respectively.
  • Expected CBG Production: Around 30–32 TPD of Compressed Bio-Gas.
  • Feedstock: Segregated organic municipal solid waste collected across Delhi.

Focus on Waste-to-Energy

The proposed facilities will convert biodegradable municipal waste into renewable compressed bio-gas, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels while promoting sustainable waste management.

According to the company, the project is expected to:

  • Reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills.
  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Improve scientific waste management in Delhi.
  • Support the production of clean and renewable fuel.

Supporting India’s Green Energy Goals

The initiative forms part of Oil India’s strategy to expand its renewable and clean energy portfolio through waste-to-energy projects.

The project also supports key Government of India initiatives, including:

  • Swachh Bharat Mission
  • SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative
  • India’s long-term Net Zero emissions targets
