Ola Electric Secures Full Five-Year ACC PLI Incentive Window Through CY2031, Unlocking Up to ₹7,240 Crore
Ola Electric Mobility Limited has announced that the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India, has approved revised timelines under the Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Ola Cell Technologies Private Limited (OCT), its wholly owned subsidiary.
The revised timeline provides Ola Electric with a full five-year PLI incentive window through CY2031 for its allocated 20 GWh capacity and could unlock cumulative incentives of up to ₹7,240 crore.
Ola Electric Gets Revised ACC PLI Timeline
According to the company’s announcement dated August 12, 2026, the MHI decision effectively extends the original timelines by two years.
The revised schedule gives Ola Electric additional time to meet the milestones under the ACC PLI scheme while allowing the company to access incentives over the extended period.
Ola Electric said that PLI incentives will be disbursed quarterly over the next five years, beginning next quarter. This could create a recurring incentive stream as the company scales its battery-cell manufacturing operations.
Ola Electric to Reach 6 GWh Capacity by Quarter-End
Ola Electric currently has 2.5 GWh of installed cell-manufacturing capacity, while another 3.5 GWh is under installation.
The company expects to reach 6 GWh of installed capacity by the end of the current quarter, ahead of the revised December 2026 timeline for the initial milestone.
The company said this achievement would put it ahead of the revised government schedule.
Ola Electric’s broader allocation under the ACC PLI scheme stands at 20 GWh, with the revised timeline supporting its expansion toward the full allocation.
₹7,240 Crore PLI Opportunity
The revised timeline is significant for Ola Electric because it provides access to a potential cumulative incentive of up to ₹7,240 crore.
The company said the incentives were not factored into its business projections after it exceeded the original timelines. With the revised schedule, Ola Electric now expects to access the incentive opportunity, with disbursements beginning as soon as the next quarter.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, said the revised timeline changes the economics of the company’s cell business by turning the earlier milestone pressure into a five-year quarterly PLI opportunity.
Ola Electric’s Battery Cell Manufacturing Expansion
Ola Electric currently operates an ACC cell manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company is developing its cell manufacturing capabilities as part of its broader strategy covering electric vehicles, battery cells and critical vehicle components.
The company’s battery-cell platform is being developed around multiple chemistries, including:
- NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt)
- LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate)
The company said its cell technology development is supported by:
- Indigenous research and development
- Increasing localisation of battery materials
- Improvements in manufacturing yield
- Closed-loop material recovery
Importance of Battery Cells for Electric Mobility
Battery cells are an important component of electric vehicles and energy-storage systems. The company also highlighted their potential applications in areas including:
- Electric mobility
- Energy storage
- Drones
- Robotics
- Next-generation industrial systems
Ola Electric believes that developing these capabilities domestically can contribute to India’s energy security and technology independence while supporting the development of a domestic battery ecosystem.
Ola Electric’s Broader Energy Roadmap
The company said it will unveil its broader energy product roadmap at its annual Sankalp event on Independence Day.
The roadmap will include products and initiatives under the names Shakti, Mahashakti, along with the next phase of its energy platform.
This indicates that Ola Electric’s battery-cell manufacturing plans are being developed alongside a broader energy-product strategy.
Ola Electric’s Manufacturing and R&D Ecosystem
Ola Electric describes itself as an electric vehicle and energy technology company with vertically integrated capabilities across:
- Electric vehicles
- Battery cells
- Critical vehicle components
Its manufacturing ecosystem includes the Ola Futurefactory and an operational Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu.
The company also has a Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, which focuses on next-generation cell and battery technologies.
What the Revised PLI Timeline Means for Ola Electric
The revised ACC PLI timeline could be significant for Ola Electric because it gives the company a longer period to scale its cell manufacturing capacity while potentially accessing incentives of up to ₹7,240 crore.
The company is already targeting the initial 6 GWh capacity milestone by the end of the current quarter, ahead of the revised December 2026 deadline.
The next key focus will be the company’s ability to scale production, improve manufacturing yields and expand its cell business toward its allocated 20 GWh capacity.
