Tata Power Commissions 400 kV Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Corridor with 1,000 MVA Substation
Tata Power has commissioned the second element of its Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh, adding a major high-voltage transmission corridor and a 1,000 MVA substation to the region’s power infrastructure.
The project has been executed through TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power.
The commissioning is aimed at strengthening electricity transmission connectivity across NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh, including areas around Noida and other growing electricity demand centres.
162 CKM 400 kV Transmission Corridor
The newly commissioned infrastructure includes a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line between Khurja and Jalpura, covering 162 circuit kilometres (CKM).
The corridor consists of two circuits of approximately 81 km each.
Khurja is an important power transmission node in Western Uttar Pradesh, and the new corridor is expected to improve the movement of electricity towards NCR and Noida.
The project therefore adds high-voltage transmission capacity to an area where electricity demand is increasing due to urbanisation, industrial activity and infrastructure development.
1,000 MVA Jalpura Substation Commissioned
Along with the transmission line, Tata Power has commissioned a 400/220 kV GIS substation at Jalpura with 1,000 MVA transformation capacity.
The substation will facilitate the transfer of electricity from the 400 kV high-voltage network to the 220 kV network.
According to Tata Power, the infrastructure will help support increasing regional power requirements while improving the reliability, resilience and efficiency of the transmission network.
Tata Power Transmission Portfolio Expands
The latest commissioning further strengthens Tata Power’s presence in India’s electricity transmission sector.
The company’s transmission portfolio now stands at approximately 7,900 circuit kilometres of lines operational and under execution across India.
The expansion is strategically relevant as India’s electricity demand grows and additional transmission infrastructure is required to connect generation capacity with major consumption centres.
Strategic Importance for NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh
The Jalpura-Khurja corridor is designed to provide a stronger high-voltage link between two important transmission locations in Uttar Pradesh.
For NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh, additional transmission infrastructure can help improve the ability of the power network to handle rising electricity demand.
The project also supports Tata Power’s broader strategy of participating across the power value chain, including generation, transmission and distribution.
