Tata Power Renewables Crosses 7 GW Operational Capacity with 100 MW Tamil Nadu Solar Project
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has crossed a significant 7 GW operational renewable energy capacity milestone following the commissioning of its 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project at Kayathar, Tamil Nadu.
The commissioning has also increased TPREL’s utility renewable energy portfolio to 12.3 GW, strengthening its position in India’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
7 GW Operational Capacity Milestone
TPREL’s operational renewable capacity now stands at more than 7 GW, comprising approximately 5.7 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind capacity.
The company also has a substantial 5.3 GW renewable energy pipeline under development, consisting of around 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind projects. These projects are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 6 to 24 months, providing a potential growth driver for the renewable energy business.
100 MW Solar Project in Tamil Nadu
The newly commissioned 100 MW solar project at Kayathar will supply renewable power to three Tata Group companies — TP Solar, Tata Electronics and Tata Realty and Infrastructure.
The project is expected to generate approximately 240.63 million units of clean electricity annually and offset around 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
Technology-Focused Solar Project
The project also features Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) Single Axis Tracker technology, described by the company as a first-of-its-kind deployment for a Tata project in India.
It uses approximately 2.62 lakh Mono PERC bifacial solar modules, designed to improve energy generation and operational efficiency across varying terrain conditions.
Investor Takeaway
The key significance of the announcement is the combination of 7 GW operational renewable capacity, a 12.3 GW utility portfolio and a further 5.3 GW development pipeline.
The latest 100 MW project adds to Tata Power Renewables’ operating base, while the large pipeline provides visibility for further renewable capacity additions over the coming 6 to 24 months.
For investors, the announcement is primarily a renewable capacity expansion and long-term growth story rather than an immediate earnings catalyst.
