Vardhman Special Steels Lays Foundation Stone for ₹1,116 Crore Forging Unit in Ludhiana

Vardhman Special Steels Limited (NSE: VSSL | BSE: 534392) has marked a significant milestone in its growth journey with the foundation stone laying ceremony for its upcoming state-of-the-art forging facility at Village Hanger, Ludhiana, Punjab. The event was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, underscoring the state’s commitment to promoting advanced manufacturing and industrial development.

The new forging unit represents a strategic forward integration for the company, enabling it to expand from manufacturing special steels into high-value precision-forged automotive components.

Strategic Expansion with Japanese Technology

The upcoming facility will leverage Vardhman Special Steels’ long-standing technical collaboration with Aichi Steel Corporation, Japan, adopting the company’s advanced rolling mill forging technology to manufacture world-class forged products for domestic and international markets.

Key Highlights of the ₹1,116 Crore Expansion Plan

  • Total Planned Investment: ₹1,116 crore across two phases.
  • Phase 1: Installation of one forging line along with a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) line, targeted for commissioning by March 2028.
  • Phase 2: Addition of a second forging line based on customer demand and market requirements.
  • Product Portfolio: Precision ring gears and engineered forged components for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Target Markets: India, Europe, ASEAN, Africa, and Mexico.
  • Employment Generation: The project is expected to create more than 300 direct jobs.

Management Commentary

Commenting on the occasion, Sachit Jain said the new forging facility marks a transformational step in the company’s evolution from being a special steel manufacturer to becoming an integrated supplier of both special steels and precision-forged components.

Iwao Shimamoto stated that the transfer of Aichi Steel’s forging technology will help establish a world-class manufacturing system focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational excellence.
