The Hyundai Staria is a spacious, premium MPV with a van-like design, currently on display at the 2025 Auto Expo. Hyundai is using this platform to assess customer interest in the vehicle. While the Staria is available in markets such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and South Africa, it has yet to launch in India. The vehicle is well-regarded in these regions for its exceptional space and comfort.
Design
The Staria stands out with its striking, futuristic design, inspired by a spaceship. The exterior features a black bumper, a large mesh grille, a wide windscreen, a full-width LED light bar, and lower-positioned pixel LED headlamps. It also includes automatic sliding doors and vertically stacked LED tail lamps with pixel detailing at the rear.
Interior
Inside, the Staria offers a premium experience with a vertically positioned touchscreen, a freestanding instrument cluster, a 4-spoke steering wheel, and ventilated seats. Other key features include automatic climate control, wireless charging, a power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, LED ambient lighting, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and high-quality leather upholstery.
Seating
The Staria provides flexible seating configurations, including 11, 9, and 7-seat options, as well as a 2-seater commercial version. The model featured at the Auto Expo is a 7-seater, with seats that recline at the touch of a button. The 9-seater variant features seats that can rotate 180 degrees for enhanced versatility.
Engine and Drivetrain
Globally, the Staria is available with petrol, diesel, and hybrid powertrains, including:
- A 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine generating 272 hp and 331 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
- A 2.2-liter diesel engine delivering 177 hp and 431 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Staria is offered in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
Safety
The Staria comes equipped with several advanced safety features, including Level 2 ADAS, front parking sensors, seven airbags, and a smart key.
Pricing and Competition
Should Hyundai launch the Staria in India, it is expected to be priced starting from Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom). Its main competitor in the Indian market will likely be the Kia Carnival.
