Astra Microwave Secures ₹171 Cr Order from IMD for Cutting-Edge Doppler Weather Radars

Astra Microwave Secures ₹171 Cr Order from IMD for Cutting-Edge Doppler Weather Radars

Astra is set to deliver 6 units of these Klystron-based S-band Polarimetric DWRs, along with associated goodies like Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Disdrometers (devices that measure raindrop sizes for better precipitation analysis). The package includes a 3-year warranty followed by 7 years of Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) – so IMD gets full support for a decade.

This is a pure domestic order from the Government of India, no international angles or related-party ties involved. Everything’s at arm’s length, as per SEBI norms.

Timeline and Financials

Execution window: 18 months from the order date. That means these radars could be up and running by mid-2027, boosting India’s weather monitoring capabilities just in time for future monsoon seasons.

Total value: ₹171.38 crore, inclusive of all taxes and GST. For a mid-cap player like Astra, this is a nice boost to the order book – expect it to reflect in their defense electronics revenue stream.
