BHEL Wins ₹2,800 Crore Syngas Project in Odisha

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a major domestic order with the receipt of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for a large-scale industrial project in Odisha, reinforcing its leadership in India’s core infrastructure and energy segments.

The contract, valued at approximately ₹2,800 crore (excluding customs duty and GST), is for setting up a Syngas Purification Plant—a critical unit of the Coal to 2,000 TPD Ammonium Nitrate Project located at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district.

The project has been awarded by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL), a joint venture between Coal India Limited and BHEL, in which BHEL holds a 49% equity stake. The initiative is a key step toward strengthening India’s coal gasification and value-added chemical production capabilities.

Under the contract, BHEL will undertake end-to-end project execution, including design, engineering, equipment supply, civil construction, erection, and commissioning of the Syngas Purification Plant. The commissioning phase is scheduled to be completed within 42 months.

In addition to project execution, BHEL will also provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for 60 months, ensuring long-term operational reliability and efficiency of the plant.
