GRSE Secures ₹1,032 Crore ONGC Contract to Build Four Platform Supply Vessels

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has received a major boost to its commercial shipbuilding business after securing a prestigious contract from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) for the construction of four Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs).

The company informed the stock exchanges on July 30, 2026, that it has received the Notification of Award (NOA) for the project, valued at ₹1,032.07 crore (including GST).

Key Highlights of the Order

  • Company: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE)
  • Customer: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC)
  • Project: Construction of Four Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs)
  • Order Value: ₹1,032.07 crore (including GST)
  • Order Type: Domestic
  • Execution Timeline: 48 months from the date of the Notification of Award (NOA)
  • Award Date: July 30, 2026

What Are Platform Supply Vessels?

Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) are specialized offshore support ships designed to transport cargo, equipment, drilling materials, fuel, freshwater, and personnel to offshore oil and gas installations. These vessels play a critical role in supporting exploration and production activities by ensuring uninterrupted logistics between shore bases and offshore platforms.

The new vessels to be built by GRSE will strengthen ONGC’s offshore operational capabilities and support India’s growing energy infrastructure.

Strategic Importance of the Contract

This contract represents another significant milestone for GRSE as it continues to expand beyond defence shipbuilding into the commercial and offshore vessel segment.

The order:

  • Strengthens GRSE’s commercial shipbuilding order book.
  • Demonstrates ONGC’s confidence in India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.
  • Supports the Government of India’s “Make in India” and maritime self-reliance initiatives.
  • Provides long-term revenue visibility, with execution scheduled over the next four years.

The project also reinforces GRSE’s expertise in designing and constructing technologically advanced vessels for both defence and commercial customers.

Execution Timeline

According to the exchange filing, the project is scheduled to be completed within 48 months from the date of the Notification of Award. During this period, GRSE will undertake the construction, testing, and delivery of all four Platform Supply Vessels to ONGC.

Corporate Governance Disclosure

GRSE clarified in its regulatory filing that:

  • The contract has been awarded by a domestic entity.
  • No promoter, promoter group, or group company has any interest in ONGC regarding this contract.
  • The transaction does not qualify as a related-party transaction, ensuring compliance with applicable corporate governance norms.

Why This Matters for Investors

The ₹1,032 crore order adds meaningful visibility to GRSE’s future revenues and further diversifies its order pipeline. Alongside its defence projects, commercial offshore vessel contracts can contribute to sustained revenue growth and improve capacity utilization at the shipyard.

With India’s increasing focus on offshore energy exploration, naval modernization, and domestic manufacturing, GRSE remains well-positioned to benefit from rising demand for specialized vessels.
