Hind Rectifiers Secures ₹60 Crore Vande Metro Propulsion System Development Order from Rail Coach Factory

First development order strengthens the company’s position in India’s next-generation railway propulsion and rolling stock ecosystem

Hind Rectifiers Limited (NSE: HIRECT | BSE: 531644) has secured its first development order for the Vande Metro (Namo Bharat) train platform from the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala. The order marks a significant milestone for the company as it expands its presence in advanced railway propulsion systems and indigenous rolling stock technologies.

Valued at approximately ₹60 crore, the project reinforces Hind Rectifiers’ growing role in supporting Indian Railways’ modernization and localization initiatives.

Order Details

The development contract includes the complete design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of integrated propulsion equipment for the Vande Metro trainsets.

  • Customer: Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala
  • Execution Period: 21 months
  • Scope: Design, development, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of propulsion systems

Advanced Propulsion Systems to be Supplied

Under the contract, Hind Rectifiers will supply a complete traction package comprising:

  • IGBT-based three-phase propulsion systems
  • Traction transformers
  • Traction motors
  • Train Control and Management System (TCMS)
  • Associated electrical and propulsion equipment

The integrated solution is expected to support efficient, reliable, and energy-efficient operation of the new-generation trainsets.

Supporting India’s Vande Metro Programme

The Vande Metro (Namo Bharat) platform is being developed as a modern, self-propelled, fully air-conditioned 16-coach trainset designed for short and medium-distance intercity and suburban routes.

The trains are intended to operate on routes of up to 250 kilometres with a maximum operating speed of 130 km/h, offering faster, more comfortable, and energy-efficient regional rail connectivity.

Management Commentary

Commenting on the order, Suramya Nevatia, Chairman and Managing Director of Hind Rectifiers Limited, said the development order reflects the company’s continued investment in indigenous research and development and validates its engineering capabilities in railway propulsion technologies.

He added that Hind Rectifiers’ decades of experience in traction transformers and railway electrical systems position the company to deliver advanced indigenous solutions as Indian Railways continues its modernization and expansion programme.
