Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Minerals & Metals (M&M) business vertical has recently bagged Major EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) orders, largely driven by strong demand from India’s domestic steel sector. A key contributor to these wins is L&T’s long-standing association with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), one of the country’s largest public-sector steel producers.
These orders highlight L&T’s continued leadership in executing large, complex metallurgical infrastructure projects across India.
What Does a “Major” Order Mean for L&T?
As per L&T’s internal order classification, a “Major” order carries a contract value ranging between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore. Such high-value projects form a critical part of L&T’s order book, reinforcing its position as a USD 30 billion multinational with expertise in high-tech manufacturing and complex EPC execution.
Key EPC Projects Awarded to L&T
The recently secured contracts are focused on the modernisation and capacity expansion of India’s steel manufacturing ecosystem.
IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur (West Bengal)
Under SAIL’s ambitious plan to ramp up crude steel capacity from 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 6.5 MTPA, L&T has been awarded a comprehensive EPC package. The scope includes engineering, procurement, and installation of the core units of the new steel complex, such as:

By-Product Plant
Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF)
Specialised material handling systems
This project is a key step in transforming IISCO into a modern, high-capacity steel plant.
Bokaro Steel Plant, Jharkhand
At the Bokaro Steel Plant, L&T will execute the EPC package for setting up Sinter Plant #2, a crucial facility that supports upstream expansion and improves overall steelmaking efficiency.
