Tata Power Company Limited, a prominent integrated power company, has announced a significant development that underscores its strategic expansion in India’s power transmission sector. The company recently informed the exchanges of its receipt of a Letter of Intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited. This LOI is for the acquisition of Ryapte Power Transmission Limited, a project special purpose vehicle (SPV), marking a significant step toward enhancing Karnataka’s energy infrastructure.
This domestic contract operates on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, ensuring Tata Power will provide crucial transmission services for an extensive period of 35 years. The operational commencement is slated for 30 months after the SPV transfer, marking a long-term commitment. The project’s scope is considerable, involving the construction of approximately 250 km of high-tension lines, including 400 kV D/C lines, 220 kV D/C lines, and 220 kV underground cables across strategic locations in Karnataka.
Key infrastructure developments within the project include establishing two greenfield substations: a 5×500 MVA, 400/220 kV AIS substation at Ryapte in Tumkur District, and a 3X500 MVA, 400/220kV GIS substation at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote. These facilities are designed to significantly bolster the regional grid’s capacity and reliability.
Financially, this project is substantial, projecting annual transmission charges of ₹ 521.07 crore. This long-term revenue stream highlights Tata Power’s continued growth trajectory and its vital role in supporting India’s energy transition. As the nation progresses towards modernizing its energy infrastructure, Tata Power’s expanding transmission portfolio positions it as a key player. This development is expected to be viewed positively by investors, reflecting the company’s commitment to strategic expansion and sustained performance in the power sector.
