VA Tech Wabag Limited (WABAG), a global leader in pure-play water technology, has achieved a significant milestone: its maiden entry into Kuwait. The company secured a ‘Mega’ Design, Build, Operate (DBO) contract for the Doha SWRO Desalination Plant with Recarbonation System – Stage II from Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy (MEWRE). This prestigious order not only solidifies WABAG’s leadership but also significantly expands its footprint across the crucial GCC region, highlighting its strategic growth.
The project, undertaken via an unincorporated Joint Venture led by WABAG alongside Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company K.S.C. (HEISCO), showcases WABAG’s robust execution capabilities. It involves the comprehensive design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a substantial 60 MIGD (approximately 272 MLD) SWRO plant. The construction phase is set for 36 months, critically followed by a five-year Operation & Maintenance (O&M) period, ensuring long-term revenue visibility and operational stability.
This strategic win underscores WABAG’s commitment to sustainable water solutions. The facility will employ advanced desalination technologies to deliver high-quality potable water, directly addressing Kuwait’s increasing water demands and bolstering national water security. Further emphasizing sustainability, the integration of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems will partially meet the plant’s energy requirements, promoting renewable energy adoption and a reduced carbon footprint.
Mr. Rohan Mittal, Head – Strategy and Business Growth – GCC, remarked on the project’s importance, stating it “marks a significant milestone in WABAG’s growth journey in the GCC region and our maiden entry into Kuwait.” For investors, this mega-project signals robust order book growth and strengthens WABAG’s standing in a vital sector, promising stable, long-term earnings potential through its DBO model and extended O&M contract.
