Oncology Leads AstraZeneca Pharma India’s Growth

Oncology remained the company’s largest therapy area during Q1 FY27.

The segment generated revenue of ₹464.9 crore, representing 26% growth compared with Q1 FY26.

The performance reflects continued demand for AstraZeneca’s oncology portfolio and the company’s focus on expanding access to innovative cancer treatments.

Biopharmaceuticals Revenue Rises 36%

The Biopharmaceuticals segment, covering CVRM, Respiratory & Immunology (R&I) and related therapies, recorded revenue of ₹161.9 crore.

This was one of the strongest contributors to AstraZeneca Pharma India’s overall growth during the quarter.

Rare Disease Business Shows Strong Momentum

The Rare Disease segment delivered revenue of approximately ₹14.4 crore, compared with the corresponding period last year, representing approximately 35-fold growth.

While the segment remains smaller in absolute revenue terms, the sharp increase highlights the company’s expanding presence in specialised and high-unmet-need therapies.

Oncology ₹464.9 crore 26%
Biopharmaceuticals ₹161.9 crore 36%

Key Regulatory Approvals During Q1 FY27

AstraZeneca Pharma India secured multiple important regulatory approvals during the quarter.

Acalabrutinib for CLL and SLL

The company received regulatory approval for acalabrutinib in combination with venetoclax, with or without obinutuzumab, for the treatment of previously untreated patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

The approval expands treatment options in blood cancers and strengthens AstraZeneca’s oncology portfolio.

Acalabrutinib for Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Acalabrutinib also received approval in combination with bendamustine and rituximab for adult patients with previously untreated mantle cell lymphoma who are not eligible for autologous stem cell transplant.

This represents another regulatory milestone for AstraZeneca’s haematology-oncology franchise.

Trastuzumab Deruxtecan for HER2-Positive Breast Cancer

The company received regulatory approval for trastuzumab deruxtecan in combination with pertuzumab for the first-line treatment of adults with unresectable or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer.

The approval further strengthens AstraZeneca’s position in advanced breast cancer treatment.

AI-Powered Lung Cancer Screening Initiative in Telangana

Beyond its product portfolio, AstraZeneca Pharma India also expanded its healthcare partnerships during the quarter.

The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Telangana to introduce AI-enabled lung cancer screening across public healthcare facilities.

Under the initiative, AstraZeneca will facilitate deployment of an AI-powered chest X-ray solution from Qure.ai.

The technology is designed to help clinicians identify high-risk pulmonary nodules and other lung conditions, supporting earlier triage and follow-up.

The programme is expected to cover 20 public healthcare facilities across urban and rural areas of Telangana.

The initiative will also include training and upskilling of healthcare professionals to support long-term adoption.

K+ Connect Initiative for Heart Failure and Kidney Disease

AstraZeneca launched K+ Connect, a pan-India multidisciplinary initiative focused on improving the management of hyperkalaemia among patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease.

The initiative aims to bring clinicians from different specialties together to improve:

  • Risk identification
  • Patient monitoring
  • Hyperkalaemia management
  • Coordination across specialties
  • Clinical awareness

The programme highlights AstraZeneca’s growing focus on integrated disease management rather than medicines alone.

India Coronary Conquest 2026

AstraZeneca also launched India Coronary Conquest (ICC) 2026 in collaboration with STEMI India.

The programme is designed as a national complex PCI challenge for interventional cardiologists.

It aims to strengthen evidence-based learning and peer-to-peer exchange through case-based learning and scientific collaboration.

The initiative is focused on capability building in advanced cardiovascular care across India.
