Board Approves ₹1,225 Crore Greenfield Manufacturing Facility

In a major expansion announcement, Eicher Motors’ Board approved an investment of ₹1,225 crore for Phase I of its Greenfield manufacturing project in Andhra Pradesh.

The new facility will have the capacity to manufacture up to 4.5 lakh motorcycles annually once fully operational. The project is expected to be completed during FY 2029-30 and will be financed entirely through internal accruals.

Royal Enfield Capacity to Reach 24.5 Lakh Motorcycles

Eicher currently operates manufacturing plants at Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal in Tamil Nadu with a combined annual production capacity of around 15 lakh motorcycles. The company is also expanding its Cheyyar plant, which is expected to increase total capacity to 20 lakh motorcycles per year by FY 2027-28.

Following the completion of the Andhra Pradesh Greenfield facility, Royal Enfield’s overall production capacity will increase to approximately 24.5 lakh motorcycles annually.

Expansion Backed by Strong Demand

According to the company, the existing manufacturing capacity is approaching full utilization, making additional capacity essential to meet future demand.

Management stated that the Greenfield investment is intended to prepare the company for long-term growth opportunities while strengthening Royal Enfield’s manufacturing capabilities.

Long-Term Growth Strategy

The company’s recently released Integrated Annual Report also highlighted several strategic priorities, including:

  • Expansion of Royal Enfield’s electric motorcycle portfolio through the Flying Flea brand.
  • Continued investments in new motorcycle platforms and technology.
  • Strong performance from VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), which crossed 100,000 vehicle sales for the first time.
  • Continued focus on ESG initiatives, manufacturing expansion, and international growth.
