IdeaForge Technology Q1 FY27: Revenue Jumps, Order Book Stands at ₹256.8 Crore as Drone Demand Gains Momentum

ideaForge Technology Limited has reported a strong start to FY27, with the company highlighting improved execution, progress across key UAV development programmes and a growing opportunity pipeline in India’s defence and drone ecosystem.

During its Q1 FY27 earnings call held on August 11, 2026, management said the Indian drone industry continued its recovery after the muted FY25 period. The company entered FY27 with an opening order book of more than ₹300 crore and focused on converting this backlog into revenue.

Q1 FY27 Revenue Rises to ₹68.6 Crore

ideaForge reported revenue from operations of ₹68.6 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹12.8 crore in Q1 FY26.

Gross profit increased to ₹33.6 crore from ₹7.9 crore a year earlier, while gross margin stood at 49%, compared with 61.7% in Q1 FY26.

The company reported a significant improvement at the EBITDA level. EBITDA stood at ₹4.3 crore, compared with a negative EBITDA of ₹15.1 crore in Q1 FY26.

PAT, however, remained negative at ₹2.6 crore, although this was a substantial improvement from the ₹23.6 crore loss reported in the corresponding quarter last year.

Financial Metric Q1 FY27 Q1 FY26
Revenue from Operations ₹68.6 crore ₹12.8 crore
Gross Profit ₹33.6 crore ₹7.9 crore
Gross Margin 49% 61.7%
EBITDA ₹4.3 crore -₹15.1 crore
PAT -₹2.6 crore -₹23.6 crore

Management said the company continues to expect a blended gross margin of around 50%–55% for FY27, with quarterly margins depending on product mix and delivery schedules.

Order Book at ₹256.8 Crore

As of June 30, 2026, ideaForge’s order book stood at approximately ₹256.8 crore.

The company delivered more than 20% of its opening FY27 order book during the first quarter and plans to execute the remaining order book by Q3 FY27, subject to customer timelines and supply-chain conditions.

Management said the order book is weighted towards defence, although the company does not disclose the exact defence-civil split of the current order book.

Supply-chain challenges remain an area to monitor. The company said geopolitical conflicts have created pressure on the supply of thermal cameras and certain electronic components. However, management stated that it was not currently anticipating delays to customer delivery commitments.

₹500 Crore QIP Strengthens Financial Position

ideaForge has also strengthened its balance sheet to support its next phase of growth.

The company completed a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) of ₹500 crore, with participation from domestic and global institutional investors.

According to management, the funds will be used primarily for:

  • Product development
  • Working capital
  • Capability building
  • Development of new technology platforms

Separately, ideaForge received a Letter of Intent for financial assistance of up to ₹151 crore from the Technology Development Board for its YETI programme under the Government of India’s RDI Scheme.

Management described the assistance as low-cost, long-term debt funding linked to developmental milestones.

YETI Programme Makes Key Progress

One of the company’s important development programmes is YETI, a middle-mile logistics UAV designed for challenging high-altitude operations.

During Q1 FY27, YETI achieved its first technical demonstrator milestone by completing a tethered hover test with all subsystems integrated. The second technology demonstrator has also entered the design phase.

Management highlighted the potential importance of high-altitude logistics drones for the Indian armed forces, particularly for difficult terrain where conventional logistics can be challenging.

According to management, YETI is being designed to operate at a take-off altitude of 6,500 metres and target payload capabilities of up to 200 kg, although actual range would vary depending on payload.

The company is also responding to an RFI related to logistics drones for the Indian Army. Management cautioned that the opportunity remains at the RFI stage and that final specifications and procurement quantities have not yet been determined.

Combat Drone Development Accelerates

ideaForge is expanding beyond its traditional UAV portfolio and increasing its focus on defence applications.

The company reported progress in areas including:

  • Air-launched effects
  • Hybrid propulsion
  • Long-endurance UAVs
  • Combat drone platforms
  • Long-range strike platforms
  • Loitering munitions
  • Multi-UAV operations
  • Swarming
  • Edge AI and edge computing

Management said the company is developing variants of its existing platforms as well as new airframes for combat applications.

The company has also participated in an RFP centred on the hybrid variant of its ZOLT platform and intends to participate in additional combat-related opportunities where its capabilities fit customer requirements.

Six UAV Platforms Now DGCA Type Certified

ideaForge also received DGCA Type Certification for its Q6 V2 GEO UAV during the quarter.

The certification opens opportunities in areas such as:

  • Large-scale mapping
  • Geographic information systems
  • Urban planning
  • Digital twins
  • Advanced aerial data applications

With the latest certification, six of ideaForge’s UAV platforms are now type-certified by the DGCA.

FLYGHT CLOUD Adds AI Capabilities

The company’s software ecosystem is also expanding.

During Q1, ideaForge released market-ready capabilities on FLYGHT CLOUD, including:

  • Automated video summaries
  • AI-enabled event annotation
  • Event search
  • Workflow automation
  • Data storage and post-processing
  • AI analytics

The company sees software and intelligence as an increasingly important part of its overall UAV proposition. Management said the objective is to convert raw aerial data into actionable intelligence rather than simply provide a drone platform.

1 Million Customer Missions Milestone

A major operational milestone during the quarter was the company’s deployed UAV fleet crossing 1 million customer missions.

Management said ideaForge drones are currently taking off somewhere in the world approximately every two minutes.

The company highlighted the experience gained from operating UAVs across challenging environments, including high-altitude areas, extreme cold and heat, deserts, coastal environments and increasingly electronic-warfare-contested environments.

ideaForge also has a global patent portfolio with 112 patents filed, according to management.

Defence Procurement Could Create Significant Opportunities

Management sees India’s changing defence procurement environment as a major opportunity for the drone industry.

The company referred to reported plans for approximately ₹20,000 crore of drone procurement through Fast Track Procurement, with some opportunities already moving towards the RFP stage while others remain in the approval pipeline.

The company also highlighted ₹52,000 crore of capital acquisition proposals cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council, including unmanned systems.

Another important development is the increased financial delegation available to field commanders of India’s defence forces. Management expects the enhanced procurement powers to support higher run-rate procurement activity, particularly during Q3 and Q4 FY27.

However, the company has not provided a specific forecast for FY27 order inflows.

International Expansion Remains a Focus

ideaForge is also working to expand its international business.

In the US, the company is focused on operationalising its joint venture and progressing towards Blue sUAS certification, which management sees as important for gaining access to US defence and federal opportunities.

The company is also exploring partnerships and opportunities across Europe, the Middle East, South America and Africa.

Management said it has received interest from international partners and is seeing opportunities for non-commercial demonstration units, with potential order conversions expected as the year progresses.

The company believes its strengths in long flight time, persistent surveillance, high-altitude operations and extreme-weather performance can help differentiate its products in international markets.

Technology Ownership Is a Key Competitive Advantage

A key theme of the earnings call was ideaForge’s focus on developing and owning critical technology rather than relying entirely on imported or third-party components.

Management highlighted capabilities including:

  • Resilient communication
  • GNSS-denied navigation
  • Autopilot systems
  • Secure command and control
  • Specialised payloads
  • Edge computing
  • AI and analytics
  • Electronic warfare resilience

According to management, controlling these critical technology layers can reduce dependence on external suppliers, improve security and allow the company to adapt products more quickly to changing customer requirements.

The company is also exploring opportunities to supply its subsystems and avionics capabilities to other UAV platforms and partners.

Outlook for FY27

For the remainder of FY27, ideaForge’s priorities include executing its existing order book, expanding critical technology ownership, developing complete UAV solutions and pursuing opportunities across defence, enterprise applications and international markets.

Management expects run-rate procurement opportunities to become more visible during Q3 and Q4 FY27, supported by increased procurement powers for defence field commanders.

At the same time, the company remains cautious about giving revenue or order-inflow guidance. Supply-chain constraints, customer acceptance, delivery schedules, product mix and procurement cycles could influence quarterly performance.

Overall, the Q1 FY27 earnings call points to a business transitioning from recovery towards a potentially broader growth phase, supported by a ₹256.8 crore executable order book, improving profitability, significant capital raised through the QIP, expanding defence applications and increasing demand for indigenous drone and UAV technologies.
