Vedanta Aluminum Metal Limited Launches Next-Gen Automotive Alloys at AutoEdge 2026

Vedanta Aluminium has launched two new advanced aluminium alloy products for the automotive industry at AutoEdge 2026, its exclusive automotive industry conclave held in New Delhi.

The new products are part of the company’s Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range and are designed to help automobile manufacturers develop vehicles that are lighter, stronger, safer and more efficient.

Two New Aluminium Alloys

The company has introduced:

Copper-Doped Alloy

This alloy has been developed for high-performance automotive applications. The addition of copper is designed to improve durability, wear resistance and performance at higher temperatures.

It can be used in important components such as:

  • Engine components
  • Transmission parts
  • Powertrain components

Vedanta Foundry Alloy

The Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA) has been developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi.

It combines lightweight properties with higher strength, better corrosion resistance and improved casting performance.

The alloy can be used in a wide range of applications, including conventional vehicles and electric vehicles.

Focus on India’s Growing Automotive Industry

Vedanta Aluminium said the new products are aimed at meeting the automobile industry’s increasing demand for advanced materials.

Aluminium can help vehicle manufacturers reduce weight while maintaining strength and durability. Lighter vehicles can also improve efficiency and support the development of next-generation mobility solutions.

India is currently the world’s largest market for two-wheelers and three-wheelers and the third-largest market for passenger and commercial vehicles.

Vedanta Aluminium Expanding Its Automotive Business

Vedanta Aluminium is already a major producer of aluminium products used in the automotive sector.

The company’s automotive portfolio includes aluminium alloys used in:

  • Alloy wheels
  • Cylinder heads
  • Engine components
  • Automotive castings
  • HVAC applications
  • Crash-resistant engineering applications

The company currently has 380 KTPA of Primary Foundry Alloy capacity.

It is also expanding its billet capacity at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. After the expansion, Vedanta Aluminium expects to have 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of primary billet production capacity.

Focus on Value-Added Products

Vedanta Aluminium is also increasing the share of value-added products in its portfolio.

The company aims to take the share of value-added products to 90%, supported by growing demand for high-quality and sustainably produced aluminium.

The company is also working with automobile manufacturers and component makers to develop customised aluminium solutions.

Supporting Make in India

The new products are also aligned with India’s focus on local manufacturing and supply-chain resilience.

By developing and manufacturing advanced automotive alloys in India, Vedanta Aluminium aims to help manufacturers increase domestic sourcing and reduce dependence on imported materials.

This could support India’s ambition to become a major global automotive manufacturing hub.

Global Presence

Vedanta Aluminium serves customers in more than 60 countries, including major automotive markets such as the USA, Japan, Italy, France and Germany.

The company also sells its aluminium products through Vedanta Metal Bazaar, its online non-ferrous metals marketplace.

Its facilities at Jharsuguda in Odisha and Korba in Chhattisgarh are certified under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standards.

What Does This Mean for Investors?

The launch of these new aluminium products strengthens Vedanta Aluminium’s focus on higher-value and specialised products.

The growing use of aluminium in electric vehicles, lightweight vehicles and advanced automotive components could provide long-term opportunities for the company.

However, investors should also monitor aluminium prices, global metal demand, currency movements and the overall performance of the automotive industry.

Vedanta Aluminium’s latest product launch highlights its focus on developing advanced, India-made aluminium solutions for the automotive industry.

The company is targeting growing demand from both traditional and electric vehicles while expanding its value-added product portfolio and global customer base.
