EaseMyTrip Targets 5,000 Electric Buses a Year Under Vision 2030

EaseMyTrip Targets 5,000 Electric Buses a Year Under Vision 2030

EaseMyTrip is expanding beyond its traditional travel-tech business with a push into electric commercial mobility. The company has announced the debut of electric buses from its electric mobility arm, Easy Green Mobility (EMTev), in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

More importantly, EaseMyTrip said it is working towards building the capability to manufacture 5,000 electric buses annually within the next five years as part of its Vision 2030 roadmap.

The company sees electric mobility as a potential new business alongside its existing travel and transportation operations.

EMTev Electric Buses Debut in Bhopal

The Bhopal rollout marks a step forward for EMTev’s electric bus manufacturing and operating business.

EaseMyTrip said its strategy covers an integrated mobility ecosystem involving:

  • Electric bus manufacturing
  • Fleet operations
  • Service and maintenance support
  • Progressive localisation of components
  • Electric commercial mobility solutions

The initiative builds on the operating experience of YOLO Bus, EMTev’s operating arm, which already operates conventional intercity buses across multiple southern Indian markets.

EaseMyTrip’s 5,000-Bus Manufacturing Target

Under its Vision 2030 roadmap, the company is working towards an annual manufacturing capacity of 5,000 electric buses within five years.

This is a long-term target rather than current production capacity. The company said its immediate focus is on fulfilling committed electric bus deliveries while developing the manufacturing, operating and service infrastructure required for future expansion.

The scale-up could eventually make manufacturing and operating capabilities an important part of EaseMyTrip’s diversification strategy.

12-Metre Electric Bus Specifications

EMTev’s initial portfolio includes a 12-metre electric seater coach with a seating capacity of 45+D.

According to the company, the bus features:

  • 423.9 kWh LFP battery
  • PMSM motor
  • Air suspension
  • EBS with ESC braking
  • EHPS steering
  • Stated range of up to 350 km
  • Top speed of up to 100 km/h
  • Liquid-cooled battery pack
  • Dual-gun fast-charging configuration

The company said the 12-metre and 13.5-metre electric bus models have received type approval.

Focus on Safety and Fleet Intelligence

EMTev is also developing technology for monitoring and managing its electric bus fleet.

The buses use electronic braking and stability-control systems along with camera-based monitoring.

The company said a centralised control tower will allow vehicle and battery data to be monitored continuously, helping identify potential issues proactively.

EMTev is also developing AI-enabled driver monitoring and blind-spot detection, while ADAS features are part of its broader technology roadmap.

Localisation of Electric Bus Components

Another important part of EMTev’s strategy is progressive localisation.

The company plans to increase domestic sourcing and manufacturing of electric vehicle components in phases.

According to EaseMyTrip, greater localisation could help reduce dependence on imported components while strengthening domestic capabilities across the electric vehicle supply chain.

The company also expects the expansion to create employment across manufacturing, fleet operations, service support and related ancillary activities.

EaseMyTrip’s Move Beyond Travel Technology

The electric bus initiative represents a broader diversification strategy for EaseMyTrip.

The company said its Vision 2030 roadmap aims to participate in the wider tourism infrastructure and transportation ecosystem rather than remain focused solely on online travel services.

Through EMTev, EaseMyTrip is looking to combine its understanding of travel and mobility with electric commercial transportation, domestic manufacturing and sustainable infrastructure.

CEO & Co-Founder Rikant Pittie said the company aims to develop capabilities in electric bus manufacturing, operations and localisation, with a focus on scale and efficiency.

What Investors Should Watch

For investors tracking EaseMyTrip, the important developments from here will be execution rather than the manufacturing target alone.

Key points to monitor include:

  • Actual electric bus deliveries
  • Production capacity created over the next few years
  • Orders and fleet contracts secured by EMTev
  • Utilisation of manufacturing facilities
  • Capital expenditure required for the expansion
  • Localisation of components
  • Revenue contribution from electric mobility
  • Profitability and cash-flow impact of the new business
  • Progress towards the stated 5,000-bus annual manufacturing target

The 5,000 buses per year figure is a management target for the next five years, and should not be treated as current production capacity or guaranteed future sales.

Bottom Line

EaseMyTrip’s Bhopal electric bus rollout marks another step in the company’s diversification beyond online travel.

The bigger development is its stated plan to build the capability to manufacture 5,000 electric buses annually within five years. The company is simultaneously developing fleet operations, service infrastructure and localised sourcing.

The initiative’s financial significance will depend on how quickly EMTev converts its manufacturing and operating plans into deliveries, revenue, and sustainable profitability.
