MoD Awards ₹1,990 Crore Contract to Mazagon Dock for AIP Plug Integration into Submarines
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a significant contract worth ₹1,990 crore to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) on December 30, 2024. The contract pertains to the construction of an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) Plug for the DRDO-AIP system and its integration into conventional submarines, enhancing their endurance. The AIP technology is being indigenously developed by DRDO, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The contract signing took place in New Delhi, with Defence Secretary Shri. Rajesh Kumar Singh in attendance. MDL, a Government Company under the MoD’s administrative control, will design, construct, and integrate the AIP Plug into Scorpene Submarines. The project is set to be completed within 42 months from the advance payment release date.
The Acquisition Wing of the MoD awarded the contract, with the Indian Navy as the beneficiary. SEBI granted MDL an exemption from disclosing classified information related to the contract. This exemption adheres to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, which pertains to the continued disclosure of contracts, documents, and information classified as secret, confidential, or sensitive by the MoD.
