Mumbai, India – In a significant move set to bolster its global oncology ambitions, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited has announced the advancement of its multi-country Phase 3 clinical trial for Trastuzumab rezetecan (SHR-A1811). This HER2-targeted antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) holds promising potential for patients battling platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC), a condition notoriously challenging to treat with currently limited options.
The announcement, dated July 2, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for Glenmark’s specialty arm, Glenmark Specialty S.A. India will lead the charge as the first of Glenmark’s licensed markets to initiate patient enrollment for this crucial trial, following swift approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). Plans are also underway to expand enrollment to Australia and South Korea, subject to regulatory greenlights.
This multi-centre, randomized, and controlled study is strategically aligned with partner Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd.’s ongoing Phase 3 trial in China. By expanding its reach to diverse patient populations, Glenmark aims to generate robust, clinically relevant data, strengthening the therapy’s profile across its licensed territories.
Addressing a Critical Unmet Need:
- Ovarian cancer stands as the eighth most common cancer among women globally, with India bearing a significant disease burden.
- Platinum-resistant cases represent a formidable challenge, demanding innovative treatment modalities.
Dr. Monika Tandon, Global Head of Clinical Development at Glenmark, underscored the trial’s importance: “Advancing this pivotal Phase 3 trial marks an important step in Glenmark’s journey to build a differentiated oncology pipeline for global markets. Platinum-resistant ovarian cancer remains an area of significant unmet need, and the initiation of patient enrollment in India, with additional countries planned, reflects our commitment to developing novel targeted therapies.”
This development underscores Glenmark’s strategic collaboration with Hengrui Pharma, secured in September 2025, granting Glenmark exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Trastuzumab rezetecan across a vast array of global markets. Investors and patients alike will be keenly watching as Glenmark pushes forward with this potentially life-changing therapy.
