Zydus Lifesciences and Apollo Hospitals Forge Landmark Partnership to Propel Multi-Cancer Detection in India
The Shield™ MCD test, developed by leading precision oncology company Guardant Health, is a methylation-based blood test capable of screening for 10 common cancer types, including breast, lung, colorectal, and ovarian cancer, in individuals aged 45 or older at average risk. Its most compelling feature is the ability to detect multiple cancers through a single blood draw, a significant leap forward from traditional, often invasive, screening methods. Awarded ‘Breakthrough Device Designation’ by the U.S. FDA, this test has the potential to provide more effective early detection than existing options.
This partnership arrives at a crucial time for India, where cancer remains a leading cause of mortality among non-communicable diseases. In 2022, over 1.41 million individuals were diagnosed with cancer, leading to more than 900,000 deaths. A major challenge has been the low and geographically disparate screening rates. By leveraging Apollo Hospitals’ extensive network and Zydus’s expertise as a leading oncology company, the collaboration aims to bridge this critical gap.
For Zydus Lifesciences, this MoU with Apollo Hospitals—a titan in India’s healthcare delivery—represents a robust expansion strategy, embedding their innovative diagnostic solution deep into the market. For Apollo, it reinforces their commitment to proactive healthcare and early intervention, empowering patients with critical information at the most treatable stages. This synergistic alliance not only promises to save countless lives but also establishes a new paradigm for cancer care in India, making cutting-edge diagnostics more accessible and fostering a future of healthier communities.
