TCS Report: Physical AI Set to Transform Global Manufacturing, Investment Momentum Accelerates

Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) has released its ‘Future-Ready Manufacturing: TCS Physical AI Readiness Report 2026’, revealing that Physical AI is rapidly evolving from a promising innovation into a mainstream technology that is reshaping manufacturing operations worldwide.

Based on insights from 300 manufacturing executives, including Chief Manufacturing Officers (CMOs) and Vice Presidents across North America and Europe, the report highlights that manufacturers are moving beyond isolated automation initiatives toward enterprise-wide Physical AI ecosystems designed to improve productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Physical AI Moves Beyond Pilot Projects

According to the report, manufacturers are increasingly viewing Physical AI as a strategic business priority rather than a technology experiment. Organizations are integrating AI-powered robots, intelligent machines, autonomous systems, and real-time decision-making capabilities across production facilities to create smarter, more adaptive factories.

Rather than replacing human workers, Physical AI is being deployed to augment the workforce, allowing employees to focus on higher-value activities while AI-powered systems handle repetitive, hazardous, and precision-intensive tasks.

The survey highlights strong confidence among manufacturers regarding the future of Physical AI:

  • 77% expect Physical AI to have the greatest impact on warehouse operations.

  • 42% anticipate significant workforce augmentation, improving employee safety and productivity by automating hazardous and repetitive tasks.
  • 68% of organizations remain in the experimental or early implementation phase but have established clear roadmaps for enterprise-wide deployment.

The report also identifies legacy system integration, modern data infrastructure, and workforce upskilling as the three most critical factors for successful large-scale adoption.

One of the report’s central themes is that the future of manufacturing will be built around human-AI collaboration rather than workforce replacement.

Physical AI enables workers to collaborate with intelligent machines that can perform physically demanding, repetitive, or potentially dangerous operations while providing real-time insights to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
