HCC Secures ₹524 Crore NHPC Contract in Jammu & Kashmir for Salal Power Station

Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) has secured a major infrastructure order worth approximately ₹524.17 crore from NHPC Limited for works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu & Kashmir. The order strengthens HCC’s presence in the hydroelectric infrastructure segment and adds to its long-standing execution track record in the region.

HCC disclosed the contract on August 11, 2026, through an exchange filing to BSE and NSE.

The contract has been awarded by NHPC Limited and covers a range of civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Salal Power Station.

Key Order Details

The project involves civil and hydro-mechanical works, along with associated ancillary and enabling works required to make the undersluices of the concrete dam at the Salal Power Station fully functional and operational.

The contract is scheduled to be completed over a period of 27 months.

Salal Power Station Project

The Salal Power Station is one of NHPC’s key hydroelectric assets in Jammu & Kashmir. The rehabilitation of the dam’s undersluices is expected to improve the operational efficiency of the facility while strengthening sediment management and the long-term safety and reliability of the dam.

For HCC, the project is strategically significant because it builds on the company’s extensive experience executing complex hydroelectric and infrastructure projects in Jammu & Kashmir.

HCC’s Strong Hydropower Track Record in J&K

HCC has a long history of executing major infrastructure projects across Jammu & Kashmir.

The company previously constructed the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, which was commissioned in 1987.

HCC has also executed several other major hydropower projects in the region, including:

• Uri-II – 240 MW
• Kishanganga – 333 MW
• Nimoo Bazgo – 45 MW
• Chutak – 44 MW

Together, these projects represent an installed capacity of 1,352 MW, equivalent to approximately 38% of Jammu & Kashmir’s total installed hydropower capacity, according to the company’s announcement.

HCC’s Role in Strategic Infrastructure

HCC’s presence in Jammu & Kashmir extends beyond hydropower projects.

The company constructed India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge at Anji Khad and has executed nearly 32 km of tunnels for the strategically important Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

According to HCC, the company’s tunnel execution represents approximately 27% of the total tunnel length of the project.

The USBRL project is important for improving connectivity in the region, including civilian and defence movement.
