L&T Wins Major BESS Order in Middle East for 6 GWh Storage Capacity

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has announced that its Renewables business has won a Major order from a notable client in the Middle East to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The announcement was made on August 25, 2026, through a filing with the stock exchanges. The company has not disclosed the name of the client or the exact order value. Under L&T’s order classification, a Major order falls in the ₹5,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore range, although the company has not stated the specific value of this contract.

L&T BESS Projects to Add 6 GWh of Storage Capacity

The three projects will collectively provide 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage capacity, with each project featuring a four-hour Battery Energy Storage System. The systems are designed to store electricity during periods of surplus generation and dispatch it during peak-demand periods, supporting grid stability and the integration of renewable energy.

The scope of the order extends beyond the battery storage facilities. It also includes grid interconnections, including pooling substations and underground cables. L&T said the BESS solution will incorporate liquid-cooling technology, which is intended to support higher power density, safety and operational life.

Middle East Renewable Energy and Grid Modernisation Opportunity

The projects are aimed at supporting renewable-energy integration and grid modernisation in the Middle East. L&T highlighted the requirements associated with the projects, including plant performance, workforce mobilisation, safety, quality and adherence to project timelines. The company said the order reflects client confidence in its engineering and project-management capabilities.

For L&T’s Renewables business, the order adds to its presence in the energy storage and grid-infrastructure segment. However, the company has not disclosed the project’s execution period, specific location, client name or the expected revenue contribution from the order. Accordingly, these details should not be estimated from the announcement.

What the L&T Order Means for Investors

The key disclosed takeaway is that L&T has secured a Major-category BESS order covering three projects with a combined 6 GWh storage capacity in the Middle East. The order also includes associated grid-interconnection infrastructure. While the exact contract value and execution timeline have not been disclosed, the classification places the order in L&T’s stated ₹5,000 crore–₹10,000 crore Major order category.
