Archean Chemical Industries Strengthens Growth Strategy with Specialty Chemicals, Semiconductors and Energy Storage Push

Archean Chemical Industries Limited (ACIL) has released its latest investor presentation, highlighting its transformation from a marine chemicals producer into a diversified specialty chemicals and advanced technology company. Alongside its leadership in bromine, industrial salt, and sulphate of potash (SOP), the company is expanding into compound semiconductors, bromine derivatives, specialty mud chemicals, and zinc-bromide battery technology, positioning itself to benefit from long-term growth opportunities across multiple high-value sectors.

Strong Manufacturing Base Across India

Archean operates an integrated manufacturing network that supports both its existing businesses and future growth initiatives.

Its manufacturing footprint includes:

  • Integrated marine chemicals facility at Hajipir, Rann of Kutch.
  • Bromine derivatives manufacturing plant at Jhagadia, Gujarat.
  • Idealis Mudchemie manufacturing facilities across Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
  • Upcoming Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor fabrication facility at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
  • Pilot battery manufacturing facility of Offgrid Energy Labs in Hampshire, United Kingdom.

Diverse Product Portfolio Supports Multiple Industries

Archean serves a wide range of industries through its diversified specialty chemical portfolio.

Bromine Business

The company holds a leadership position in elemental bromine merchant sales with:

  • 28,500 MTPA merchant sales capacity.
  • 14,000 MTPA captive consumption capacity.
  • Applications across pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, flame retardants, water treatment, oil & gas, biocides and energy storage.

Management highlighted a healthy order book, improving plant efficiencies and strong customer relationships supporting future growth.

Industrial Salt

Archean operates a 7.5 million MTPA industrial salt manufacturing facility with an entirely export-oriented business model.

Its industrial salt products are supplied to sectors including:

  • Chlor-alkali chemicals

The company continues to benefit from long-term customer contracts and plans further operational improvements to support future expansion.

Sulphate of Potash (SOP)

Archean is India’s only manufacturer of natural sea-brine-based Sulphate of Potash (SOP) with a manufacturing capacity of 132,000 MTPA.

The company expects meaningful contribution from the SOP business during the second half of FY27 following product and process re-engineering initiatives.

SOP is widely used for high-value chloride-sensitive crops including fruits, vegetables, tea, tobacco and spices, while also serving medical, glass and cosmetic applications.

Expanding Bromine Derivatives Portfolio

Through its wholly owned subsidiary Acume Chemicals Private Limited, Archean is building a downstream bromine derivatives business.

The portfolio includes:

  • PTA catalyst – 5,000 MTPA.
  • Clear Brine Fluids – 13,000 MTPA.
  • Flame Retardant Bromine – 10,000 MTPA (under evaluation).

The company is also developing new bromine compounds while focusing on improving plant utilization and achieving breakeven during FY27.

Specialty Mud Chemicals Business Begins Commercialization

Archean has expanded into oilfield chemicals through the acquisition of Oren Hydrocarbons, now renamed Idealis Mudchemie Private Limited.

Key developments include:

  • Acquisition completed through the NCLT process for approximately ₹76.9 crore.
