Vardhman Special Steels Highlights Strong Q1 FY27 Performance with Capacity Expansion and Renewable Energy Initiatives

Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL) shared key business updates during its Q1 FY27 earnings conference call, highlighting healthy operational performance, capacity expansion plans, infrastructure upgrades, and continued investments in sustainability. Led by Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Sachit Jain, the company outlined its growth strategy to meet increasing customer demand while improving operational efficiency.

Technical Partnership with Aichi Steel Progressing Well

Vardhman Special Steels announced that it has formally executed a Technical Assistance Agreement with Aichi Steel Corporation of Japan for its forging business. The project is progressing as planned, and management expects the overall capital expenditure to remain below the initial cost estimates, reflecting efficient project execution.

The collaboration is expected to enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its position in the high-quality special steel segment.

Expansion Plans to Meet Rising Demand

Driven by strong customer demand, the company has initiated the process to increase its steel melting capacity to 360,000 tonnes per annum. An application has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) seeking the necessary environmental approvals for the proposed expansion.

The additional capacity is expected to support future business growth while improving the company’s ability to serve existing and new customers.

Infrastructure Upgrades to Improve Efficiency

Vardhman Special Steels continues to invest in operational improvements aimed at increasing productivity and enhancing product quality.

The company reported that its newly installed reheating furnace has stabilized successfully. It also plans to commission a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) line and a new peeling line by September–October 2026. These additions are expected to remove production bottlenecks, improve manufacturing efficiency, and enable a higher-value product mix.

Management also expects these facilities to reduce dependence on outsourced processing, resulting in better quality control and improved operating margins.

Renewable Energy Contribution Continues to Grow

Sustainability remains a key focus area for the company. During the quarter, solar power generation reached 2.3 crore units, meeting approximately 43% of Vardhman Special Steels’ total electricity requirements.

The company plans to expand its solar power capacity by an additional 50% over the next 12 to 18 months, supporting its long-term environmental goals while maintaining a carbon footprint below 0.5.

Demand Outlook Remains Positive

Management indicated that demand across its key customer segments continues to remain strong. To offset higher operating costs, the company has implemented appropriate price revisions while maintaining healthy customer relationships.

With the commissioning of new production lines in the second half of FY27, Vardhman Special Steels expects to bring several outsourced activities in-house, which should improve operational efficiency, product quality, and profitability.
