NLC India and Indian Oil Forge Green Alliance for Tamil Nadu’s Renewable Energy Future

In a significant stride towards India’s ambitious clean energy transition, public sector giants NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) have announced a strategic collaboration set to reshape Tamil Nadu’s renewable energy landscape. The two ‘Navratna’ enterprises have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a Joint Venture (JV), focusing on the development of large-scale renewable energy (RE) projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid power solutions.

This monumental partnership, formalized on June 22nd, 2026, aims to establish a robust renewable energy ecosystem within Tamil Nadu. The scope of the JV is extensive, encompassing projects with or without advanced energy storage systems like battery and pumped storage. The generated clean power is slated for diverse applications, from supplying third-party, commercial, and industrial consumers to energy exchanges, e-mobility infrastructure, and even the production of green synthetic fuels and chemicals. This holistic approach underscores a shared commitment to achieving “Viksit Bharat” and Net Zero Carbon targets.

Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman & Managing Director of NLC India Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of the alliance, stating, “This partnership with IOCL marks a significant milestone in NLCIL’s strategic diversification into clean and sustainable energy sectors.” He emphasized the exploration of various technologies, including green hydrogen and any future emerging RE innovations.

This collaboration leverages NLCIL’s nearly seven decades of expertise in power generation and its active expansion into green energy, alongside IOCL’s vast energy footprint. The synergy between these two heavyweights is poised to accelerate India’s green energy evolution, delivering reliable and sustainable power solutions crucial for the nation’s economic growth and environmental stewardship.
