NLC India Powers Up Odisha’s Green Future with 1000 MW Renewable Energy Joint Venture

India’s ambitious clean energy transition just received another significant boost. NLC India Limited, a ‘Navratna’ government enterprise, through its subsidiary NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), has signed a landmark Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with OREDA Ltd. (Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency). This strategic collaboration is poised to usher in a new era of sustainable power for Odisha, aligning perfectly with the nation’s “Viksit Bharat” vision and Net Zero Carbon goals.

The joint venture, formalized on June 23, 2026, commits to the establishment, operation, and maintenance of a substantial 1000 MW of green energy projects in its initial phase across Odisha. This isn’t just about a single project; the agreement also paves the way for the development of diverse green energy assets, encompassing an array of cutting-edge technologies.

For NLC India, this partnership marks a pivotal moment in its strategic diversification efforts. As a leading player under the Ministry of Coal, NLCIL is proactively expanding its footprint beyond traditional energy sources into large-scale renewable initiatives. The comprehensive scope of the JV includes:

  • Solar and Wind power projects
  • Hybrid energy solutions
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Pumped Hydro Storage
  • Green Hydrogen initiatives
  • Low-carbon round-the-clock power and Waste-to-Energy projects

Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL, highlighted the importance of this alliance in accelerating the company’s journey into clean and sustainable energy sectors. This collaboration with OREDA underscores a shared commitment towards fostering sustainable development, driving technological advancement, and building a stronger, greener nation through reliable and environmentally conscious energy solutions. Investors and environmental advocates alike will be watching closely as NLC India cements its role in shaping India’s sustainable energy landscape.
